Today’s INCREDIBLY Easy to Make Predictions

(Not afraid to put this in writing due to my natural ability to see the future. John Edward - the psychic - has nothin’ on me!)

Future generations will look back at our time and the conventional wisdom will hold the following positions - or your money back.

1. The Iraq War was a moral and moronic failure.
2. Global warming should have been dealt with decades ago and the deniers of yesteryear sucked as humans.
3. Over-population is a very, very big problem. Biggest really.
4. George Bush was a humorous, criminal, embarrassment.
5. Edward Snowden was a hero. So was Glen Greenwald.
6. Taking care of the middle and working classes was a damned good idea. We should have kept up with it.
7. Making the ultra-wealthy and corporations pay their fair share of taxes should have been carried on through the 21st century.
8. Mountaintop removal was just plain evil.
9. Solar and hydrogen power are far better than fossil fuels.
10. People attracted to the same sex are able to marry whomever they choose and the world kept spinning.
11. A few extremely wealthy people in a land filled with a majority that find it hard to take care of basic needs - does not a great country make.
12. Our ancestors gave up our rights far too easily. What was wrong with them?

My crystal ball needs to recharge its aura… or something. May be back later to add to this list.

If he was fictional maybe he would have been humorous but what did he do in real life that I am to view as humorous?

Otherwise an excellent start on the reaction of future generations, and some not so future generations.

It's scary to think that you lived in the thick of that mess. Ta-ta America. But remember there was hope when Sarah Palin was rejected...and Romney. That so-called "American Exceptionalism" died the day we turned our backs on NASA as a priority.

Besides, I'm one of those who believes that the only way our species can hope to survive through the next centuries - is to find a way to get off our planet. Space colonization is the only long-range answer. We need several space stations, a colony on the moon, a colony on Mars, and that's only for starters. We need to figure out gravity differentials and velocity issues and other challenges .

I keep thinking about what Stephen Hawking said when somebody asked him about the fabled warp drive we only enjoy when watching "Star Trek" and other sci-fi. His answer: "we're working on it." I feel like Princess Leia in that holographic SOS - "help me Obi-wan Hawking! You're our only hope!"

“He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past.”

And they are counting on controlling the present.
And if they do then all of those points will be flipped and George Bush will be a great figure in our history...and that is what will be taught in school.

50. When they selected an actor to play the role of president...

If they'd had an actor instead of McCain or Romney - they would control all three branches.

Did you notice how McCain tried to sound like Reagan on the campaign trail and how Romney looked like Reagan.

Reagan used to be a democrat - until they offered him the opportunity to become president. He studied the role and when he spoke he seemed to actually believe what he was saying.

He was just acting. Pretending that he was the most powerful man in the world.

11. Already think this.

Each one is correct and each problem should have been dealt with a long time ago.

Biggest issue is, the people causing the problems don't give a damn. Most are not stupid, just filled with greed. Only one I can't figure out is the marriage equality. There's so much money in that. The only thing I can figure is it is a way to keep the stupid religious fanatics buying the rest of the bullshit. They have to do something to keep them lapping up the talking points and idiocy.

There's a philosophy that says everything will eventually right itself (I can't think of the name of it.) it basically says that doing nothing or doing everything won't make a difference in the long run. Personally, I think the horrors have gone on so long, it's already too late. We're screwed. Not just as a country but as a species (#3 particularly )

Nice article. Looking forward to more predictions.

The whole overpopulation thing. There is so much land not being used just here in the US. I don't have any neighbors for at least 2 miles. The transit time to the closest town, Cookeville, is about 45 minutes away. That's about the average commute time for workers.

I just think that if we got out of the cities and moved into a more rural area, started growing our on food, using the local coops or farmers markets things would be better.

In Oct I will have been here for a year. My last station was in Tampa. I dread of even thinking of ever having to go back. Thankfully I don't.

...based on the video below (and a couple of others) using this solar panel kit and a couple of deep cycle marine batteries and Cobra inverter from the dreaded Walmart. It was a fun DIY solar project and I've already taken it camping and it powered all our lights, ran the radio and laptop, charged mobile devices including cell phones and tablets and, most importantly, it powered the blender to make mixed drinks .

I love it because it charges (even with clouds) the batteries back up during the day and you can turn it toward the Sun as it progresses through the day. At night, it's charged up and ready for the lights, the radio, AND the blender!

Is overpopulation or over-consumption the problem.

The little info-graphic showing the world population concentrated relative to major urban areas kinda makes you question the overpopulation issue.

If consumption were cut by 60 percent, the rate of destruction of wilderness, wildlife and oceans would far exceed what should be allowed. And since the population is exploding exponentially, we would be in the same place as we are now - very soon.

I really don't understand why people can't see something this obvious. Is it religion? What?

54. On number 9 - I disagree.

Hydrogen isn't the answer. Unless you're talking about the hydrogen in methane gas.

Harnessing the methane gas in our waste is the way to go. The folks fighting for a 'hydrogen economy' are fighting to keep the people who are in control of our energy supply in control of our future energy supply.

The technology is available for converting waste to methane - the only thing missing is storage. Methane is also a greenhouse gas, and even if we cut CO2 emissions and did nothing about methane we'd still find ourselves in trouble - because unlike CO2 methane is lighter than air. As far as I know the technology for the hydrogen economy is still in development whereas countries like India have been using methane gas for quite a while.

That's just my 2 cents worth. Of course you're right on solar, but I'd rather see more CSP (concentrated solar power) -as well as solar panels because I think we could use more readily available materials to create CSP and it could be used on a small scale system where something like methane gas was used in hours of darkness to generate electricity and CSP during the daytime. It's basically evaporated water driving turbines - just needs a heat source.
