Grieve, Glorify, Repeat...

Grieve. I haven't heard mention of any of his victims by name yet, but to be fair, I'm not watching the coverage.

Glorify. They've already been showing the guy's video's on the news and reading excerpts of his manifesto. They've even plastered catchy headlines and pics on the covers of the NY Post and Daily.

Repeat. 380 million people in the US and a ton of guns make what happened, and what will happen again too soon, an inevitable reality.

He's setting the bar high for the next killer. An angry young man with videos, a manifesto, a cool car.... The next guy is going to have to find a way to film the actual slaughter and post it to the internet before he cowardly kills himself when confronted by law enforcement, as the usually do. We've got to start treating these murderers the same way tv treats streakers at a sporting event. They don't show them at all, because it only motivates other idiots to do it. Stop airing their videos, stop posting their manifestos, stop showing their faces all over tv as though they were a reality tv star. How many times has a killer mentioned that they wanted to be bigger than Columbine or some other glorified murderer?

Break the cycle. End the glorification. We cannot control all the guns (and knives), but we can stop giving these guys airtime.
