This will follow me into the voting booth.

&feature=player_embedded

I cannot be a part of this anymore. Our elections has become bread and circus! We even have gladiators we cheer for. We are kept distracted while they are stealing us blind! The wealthy are protected and we are left on our own. This man's anguish, his pain will forever haunt me. I Pray to GOD it will haunt those craven cowards in Washington. Because if the bastards continue their fucking shit after this....and life goes on as normal? Then what?

The signs were there and the police ignored it. The only law that might have helped would be to require stronger mental health checks. I am so sorry his loss and can't imagine what he's going through but I am going to have to disagree with him on this. More gun control is not the answer. Instead we need to do A LOT more to take care of the obvious mental health problem in this country.

But please explain to me on what new laws you think would have prevented this tragedy? I am being serious.

My dh told me that he had heard or read that the police were unable to do more than they did under those circumstances, and that it was up to the parents to go to court to get some more intensive help. I have read other things, such as the article "I am Adam Lanza's Mother," which claims that no one is able to intervene until the mentally ill person actually harms himself or others. It probably varies from state to state.

In any case, perhaps ER's parents' divorce wasn't amicable enough to allow them to work together to have gotten him the help he needed.

My heart goes out to Mr. Martinez. the very worst thing I can imagine is losing a child.

He should have realized how offensive that comment was, and kept his big mouth shut.

Meanwhile, we do have to live in a world where people who disagree with us get to vote, and calling then "stupid" doesn't do a lot to win their hearts and minds.

NRA and their sympathizers shouting down the rest of the nation is exactly what has gotten us to the insanity in Georgia and Florida. Why is it that not okay that people don't want to consent to being prey or targets to keep the gun industry rolling in cash. I personally would like to see the 2nd amendment to be amended to reflect the current structure of government which does have a standing military and to allow protections for the rights of the portion of society that is preyed upon. No one, I repeat, no one person needs to own an arsenal to go about activities of daily living. Fear begets fear and killing.

You ask what gun laws could have prevented such as this. Look to Australia or Japan or even Canada. Hell virtually every other country on the face of the Earth has more sensible gun safety Laws than the USA...and they also have (by order of magnitude) far less gun violence than the USA.

Nothing will change, the massacres will continue. If Sandy Hook didn't convince Americans to repeal the 2nd amendment, nothing ever will.

If I were younger, I'd be emigrating. Leave this place to the gun nuts. At least then the gun nuts will be forced to kill only one another, if all the sane people pack up and leave.
