A lot of people go by their middle names, like Willard Mitt Romney and James Danforth Quayle. So if he wants to be Joe the Plumber instead of Sam the Plumber, fine by me.

As to Sam's lack of licensure: turns out Ohio only requires plumbing BUSINESSES to be licensed. You can work as an employee of a plumber with no license, and you have to: the state of Ohio requires five years' experience as a plumber before you can sit for the licensing examination. And there's evidence he worked as a plumber before becoming a grifter.

You are correct on one important thing: he is now Sam the Grifter.
