The Narrative on Global Warming will Change Faster than "We've Always Been at War with East Asia"

The minute any tipping point is reached, the plans for Geo-Engineering will be revealed and all opposed will be labeled as "Weak Minded Liberals Who Hate Human Progress."

Yep, we'll be power hungry ones who want to take their NASCAR away and they will be the adults with the monopoly on Science.

Same as it ever was.

1) it will be a vast corrupt boondoggle
2) we really dont have a clue what we are doing or what the side effects are going to be
3) it is a solution for the 1% of the planet. The 99% can just go fucking die off.
4) it will increase the consolidation of political and economic power

The singular difference, is that we are finally aquiring enough knowledge to practice geo-engineering with some hope of a directed outcome.

So this geo engineering tech will have unintended planetary wide consequences. But dream on.

climate change IS geo-engineering. All guesses is it won't work out great for every country. The problems with geo-engineering is the fear that any plan will have winners and losers. Which organization gets to decide these winners and losers? The UN or say some private billionaire say Bill Gates. It is on the radar of those interested in geo-politics.

like releasing non-indigenous organisms. Some of the geo-engineering 'options' have foreseeable consequences, such as trying to induce 'global dimming' with aerosols. This might keep the temperature down, but it won't help ocean acidification by the increasing carbon dioxide. The best solutions will involve stopping the production of carbon dioxide, not ameliorating some of the effects of it.

If, say, the US and China keeps pumping out CO2 like crazy other countries may have no other choice than getting together and do geo-engineering.

It would be used as an excuse to increase, or at least continue with carbon-intensive behaviors. Kind of a Jevon's Paradox variation.

Thanks for the link...

That's the thrust of my angst. All the time when behaviors could have changed and more sensible solutions were being suppressed, geo-engineering sat in the background as "the solution" for those who profit from the status quo.

We may or may not have reached a tipping point, yet. But let's bring geo-engineering from the shadows and debate it instead of keeping it as a secret solution which may or may not work.
