Bald ‘cancer Barbie’ doll to debut in 2013

The US maker of the famous Barbie franchise will release a doll next year that is bald in support of children who have cancer and lose their hair in treatment, a Mattel spokesman said Tuesday.

The decision to launch the new doll, which Mattel described as “a friend of Barbie,” was made after a massive Facebook appeal drew over 157,000 supporters to the cause of urging the doll-maker to consider a version for sick kids.

The hairless dolls will come with an assortment of wigs, hats, scarves and head coverings and will be available for donation and distribution in early 2013, Mattel said.

They will not appear on store shelves, but will go straight to hospitals treating children with cancer in the United States and Canada.

If there is such a thing as genuinely obscene, it's cancer in children.

One thought I had with the Baldness is my memory of when GMA Hostess Robin Roberts took off her wig while recovering. Both my wife and I admired her courage and the inspiration it must have given. As a cancer survivor I applauded her. She also looked beautiful.

It's also very good that Mattel isn't directly profiting from this. They may certainly make higher profits for the good publicity. Good for them if they do.

PEACE!

Locks of Love takes donations of hair to make real hair hairpieces for children who are undergoing hair loss from cancer therapies.

Don't ever get your long locks bobbed without doing this! Tell you hairdresser that you want to make such a donation and he/she should know what to do.

Kids with cancer have to go through all sorts of shit. You can help with this simple gesture.

If you're going short, just do it.
