Ah, the PROM. Remember? You're young, and the world is wide open and filled with possibilities.

Memories! Trayvon Martin's Prom Picture (PHOTOS)
Posted March 31, 2012 by Amir Rowe for Global Grind Staff

Trayvon Martin's family shares personal pictures with GlobalGrind.

Pictures courtesy of Martin/Fulton family.

It has been over a month since the tragic death of Sanford, Florida teen Trayvon Martin, and with every passing day we are learning a little bit more about the life cut tragically short by an act of senseless violence.

Something as simple as a prom photo, that is supposed to bring joy, now brings painful memories of a life lost too soon.

of horses before his life was so tragically cut short.

(Didn't get invited to the prom, myself, so can only imagine what that is like. But horses...my lifelong passion...happy to see him on horseback.)

Especially the picture helping the little girl color.

For the life of me I can not figure out how this kid could look intimidating unless a person was blinded by prejudice. The only reason I would ever follow him was to make sure he made it home safely.

...the media was only showing the pictures of him when he was "younger," that didn't accurately represent what he'd "turned into."

From what I can see, he turned into a normal teenager. Who liked the prom. And horses.

There are 15 and 16 year olds who have developed into a man. This kid looks like he grew about 6 inches in the past year and his yet to fill out.

I know this from personal experience being a skinny 6'1" 150 pounder as a Senior, the only reason I would have thrown a punch would be if I was cornered, but was never the aggressor.

Edit to add: The fucking BRUTAL part of that group picture is how happy his Mother looks, a joy she will likely never be able to experience again.

I don't expect people to agree with all my opinions. But when I pointed out the sources of some of what they were claiming, they just kept on. People I thought were open-minded and fair, claim to be progressive, but say Obama was not far enough to the left, are no longer my online friends over this.

They continue to say that Martin was a gangbanger, drug dealer and thief, that Zimmermann was just protecting his neighborhood. They say the racial reaction is out of line. I'd been chatting with them for many years and never saw this side of them. I'm disgusted and after this I won't talk to them about anything else, either.

The grey hoodie he is wearing in the first photo may well be the one he was wearing when Zimmerman stalked and shot him. Very scary hoodie, very scary young man according to Zimmerman and Geraldo it seems.

So very, very sad.

You do realize that is a racial epithet, yes? Often used against Italians and Hispanics. You might want to edit that out and use "asshole" or something less racially provocative.

The term is still alive and well in my city. So we can use pollack, wop, wetback and the like because they are somewhat antiquated?

Perhaps we should just let it all pass.

He's got that little sweet smile in most of those. A little shy. A little nerdy.

Yeah, he'd terrify the hell outta me if I were a 200lb+ older male with a gun.
