Attend a Patriotic Event on July 2/3 to Support the U.S. Senate Vote on a Constitutional Amendment.
"Across America, thousands of people will get the holiday celebration off to an early and patriotic start by calling on our senators to declare their independence from big money. On and around Wednesday, July 2, well be rallying at senators' offices in their home states to urge their support for a constitutional amendment to put sensible limits on political spending.
SJ Res. 19, introduced by Sen. Tom Udall of New Mexico, is set for a Senate vote, perhaps within weeks. It would permit Congress and our state legislatures to reclaim the First Amendment and let every voice be heard by putting limits on campaign spending.
Since the Supreme Courts Citizens United decision freed corporations to open their checkbooks to influence elections, our airwaves and mailboxes have been flooded with negative, misleading ads, often paid for by secret donors. Candidates are now so focused on raising outsized checks they have no time and little incentive to focus on the issues that matter to the millions of us struggling to get in or stay in the middle class.
Stand up for democracy. Sign up to attend a rally at an office near you!"
