2. We really need some good leaders to work through this mess

It makes the arguement against contraception a bit moot doesn't it?
Anyway I fear the worst will occur as we as a species cannot seem to come together to work for the benefit of the world's people, animals, and plants.

3. I've always said it's a self solving problem. Too many people make it unlivable for humans.

Massive die-off...

Problem solved.

We've got to give up the delusion that we are something more than instinctual animals with complex vocalizations and useful thumbs. There are plenty of studies that suggest we rarely respond rationally to any given situation. The rational mind comes into play as we seek to justify our decisions and actions.

People balk at the idea of human management, but, in all honesty, that is what it will take.

5. The graph compares predictions from the original report to the data through 2000 because

The author of the 30 year follow on study published this data in 2008.
here

I don't know if any updates cover the last 12 years.

What is interesting is how completely mischaracterized the original study was, and how accurate their basic predictions were.

7. No flak from me... although I would LOVE to have a grandchild...

I never will.

My daughter is far too aware of the hell on earth that is inevitable
and has no desire to inflict it on an innocent child.

She came into dinner with us tonight and said, "You do know that by the year
2030 the world will not be able to sustain life..."

Her dad's response was,
"You guys always find the most depressing, worst case scenarios on the Internet..."
Yes, he is from the Ozzie and Harriet generation, literally, as his parents
were friends with them, and in complete denial about many things.

I know she worries because she doesn't have brothers or sisters and is smart
enough to foresee the future and wonder what will happen to her when we are gone.

I have the same fears for her.
Damn the people who caused this bleak future for OUR children, not theirs, OURS.

even when things were looking good, I worried about what our children and grandchildren would be facing (ours in the village sense, since I never had any)-- I really hate being right about such terrible things.
