Arizona Attacks Latino Community Again, Tuscon Citizen Pulls Plug On Popular Blogger Three Sonorans
With the impeccable timing that continues to cement Tucsons reputation as a hotbed of censorship and intellectual freedom violations, the online Tucson Citizen news site just announced that it has pulled the plug on the citys most popular Latino blogger and activist, The Three Sonorans.
Despite drawing over 1.6 million visits to his take-no-prisoners blog on politics, science and Sonoran hot dogsincluding shutting down the Citizens server for breaking the tragic Gabby Giffords shooting in Tucson last yearThe Three Sonorans blogger David Abie Morales is the latest casualty in Tucsons seemingly relentless crackdown on the citys deeply rooted Latino community.
In what appears to be more of a personal act of retribution than editorial concern, Citizen editor Mark Evans wrote in an email that The Three Sonorans liability outweighed its benefit when the Tucson Weekly posted an article last night that included verbatim email communications I had with David over his Patterson post. Evans added for good measure: In the end, its better for both of us. He wont have anyone to answer to but himself and his readers and I wont have to worry about getting angry phone calls from pissed off people at my mothers funeral.
In recent days, Morales had been particularly critical of state Rep. Daniel Patterson, a former Tucson Democrat currently embroiled in an ethics violation investigation, who has apparently threatened to sue Evans and the Citizen over Morales blogs. According to the Arizona Capitol Times today, Some lawmakers have begun bringing firearms to the state Capitol, citing a growing fear of Rep. Daniel Patterson, whose alleged hostile outbursts and erratic behavior were detailed in an investigative report on Monday. ......................(more)

(53,743 posts)Actually Tucson is and has always been, along with Flagstaff, the 'blue' parts of Arizona in a sea of red. Congressman Raul Grijalva who wanted national boycotts against Arizona tourism in protest of SB 1070 is a Tucsonian, as were the Udalls, dems with national offices. Tucson always has dem mayors etc. What has happened in AZ is that a cabal of lunatic righties has taken over the state legislature up in Phoenix and is ramming thru all the crazy anti emigrant laws and gun toting laws. Those righties in Phoenix called for the abolishment of Tucson Unified Schools District's Latino Studies Program. The city of Tucson is not the culprit there. I mean Tucson is the only city that had such a program and it would still be there if not for the crazies in the legislature.

(163,986 posts)compare "The Pedagogy of the Oppressed" to "Mein Kampf", I understood that his offices are in the capital and that he and his cabal are inflicting their ignorance on Tucson -- presumably by threatening to cut funding.
Arizona is a beautiful place. Unfortunately, it is infested at the moment.
