Um, I'm no scientist, but . . .

Are you supposed to be able to strike a match and set water from your kitchen faucet on fire? No? I thought not. Then why does the oil and gas industry say no harm is coming from fracking? Amazing video on Big Ed on this tonight. What can the gas and oil industry possibly say to counteract that?

It's worth a view. It's true, and there are earthquakes occurring in Susquehanna County in NE PA all the way down to Youngwood, PA.

We're fighting made about the gas and oil industry under our republican governor in PA.

Governor Gashole, Tom Corbett.

So drinking the water would not be advisable. If trace amounts of methane were the only issue, the water should be safe to drink. Biogenic methane would indicate that the well is not properly cased and the water would likely also contain bacteria.

Shallow coal seams are another potential source of methane in groundwater. Coal contains lots of methane and it can seep up into the soil and contaminate ground water.

Keep in mind that the gas bearing shales being fracked are more than 5000 feet underground. If there is methane in the water, I would look for a source much closer to the surface rather than assuming it came from the fracked shale.

If they were new wells, then maybe your point would be more than an echo.

We presently have over 18,000 gas/oil wells in the county. And the oil/gas industry just got first dibs on our water. Once that water goes into fracking, it's unrecoverable for anything but more fracking. North of us, in Wyoming, trout are disappearing from streams due to seepage from fracking. In one community, the water is so toxic that residents are told not to shower with it.

We're an agricultural community. Our farmers were already hurting for water.

Fucking Halliburton.

people who think there is something wrong with tap water starting on fire are really suffering from personality disorder. Some other cases though could be a result of abuse suffered as a child.
Since these are psychiatric disorders, offending corporations should continue their important work.

(Seriously - this it he diagnosis given most people who have been harmed by toxic chemicals.)

lived in Douglas WY was severely burned when their gas-filled water well exploded. Her stupid husband, who'd lit a cigarette while they were recapping their well, was seriously burned too. My sister-in-law was 5 months pregnant at the time, and the baby was born with her heart exposed and with underdeveloped lungs. The baby lived two hours. My sister-in-law still has awful burn scars. Her husband did too. He died of cancer about five years ago.

Their house always smelled of gas because of the water, which of course, was undrinkable.
