Renaissance of American Responsibility (ROAR) from Morris Communications -- RW Propaganda???

A Pledge for America

"A Pledge for America" is a production of ROAR -- Renaissance of American Responsibility -- a national project of The {Augusta} Chronicle's parent company, Morris Communications. Its goal is to create a renewal of civics and citizenship, and a new appreciation for the gift and obligations of self-governance. www.Roar.us (from YouTube description)

I noticed a articles in the Amarillo Globe-News and the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal about Renaissance of American Responsibility (ROAR) that is a project of Morris Communications. Their Website is address is www.Roar.us . While the video does show a diversity of participants and lauds some notable goals, my take on their Website is that they seem opposed to government involvement under the guise of "liberty" and "freedom". The use of the term "Renaissance" also seems anti-progressive.

I wanted to bring this to the attention of other DUers to obtain their opinions and note that we might want to keep watch on this organization. Please watch the video and visit their Website.

From their Webpage:

Freedom has a good week

Whatever your politics, freedom has had an unusually good week or so.

The New York large-soda ban was struck down by the high court of the state. The U.S. Supreme Court barred police from warrantless searches of cell phones — which was huge. And Monday, the court ruled that “closely held” businesses such as family shops are free from having to provide birth control that violates their religious beliefs.

In addition, the court said home health care workers can’t be forced to pay union dues.

Again, put aside the merits of each case; the fact remains that each one grows individual freedoms.

Conflict arises among people when they go overboard in trying to control each other. Just ask Dr. Phil! “Ask yourself what you have to lose if you stop trying to control others.”

Governments are the first who ought to ask themselves.

As long as people are responsible, freedom is a good thing.

It seems to be a codeword for, "I've got mine, and fuck everyone else."

The Amarillo Independent

June 18 at 10:01pm ·

I meant to post this a few days ago but got sidetracked.

I’ve said for many years that the Amarillo community and the other areas of the Texas Panhandle are ill-served by the Morris Communications-owned Amarillo Globe-News. I have been open in saying that Morris and the Amarillo Globe-News march in lock-step to the Koch Brothers and the plutocracy, with the agenda of destroying government at all levels. The end result would be to give the corporatist plutocrats unfettered control of our society, with the industrialists fouling our air, water and lives á la the Robber Barons at the end of the 19th Century.

This isn’t a partisan rant. This is a statement from someone who worked for the Amarillo Globe-News and who had stories either edited or spiked in order to protect the sacred cows in the community. And that after the then and current publisher stood up before the entire newsroom during a Stephen Covey-inspired program to say there would be no sacred cows. In all my 25 years of hospital administration and health services research and now almost 17 years in journalism, I have never worked in a place more ethically bankrupt.

"Again, put aside the merits of each case; the fact remains that each one grows individual freedoms."

The Hobby Lobby takes away another of women's individual freedoms over their own bodies. Where will it stop?

It burns me up that men think birth control is about a woman wanting to have more sex. One hundred percent wrong! It is about her ability to take care of her health and well being by controlling the number of children she has. So many men have the same mentality as Rush Limbaugh!
