Today's news referred to Murietta as "upper income." This RIVERA family started as migrants, with the father channeling them into music, with Lupe being successful first, but then his sister broke through and with her marital scandals and then death in a plane crash, she sort of eclipsed him, and there has been nothing but *daily* squabbles of the family on the Hispanic entertainment chat shows. Whatever his motives, his making a point here might filter through to waking up a segment of Latinos.

...and am very unhappy with the coverage of this story and the way it reflects on my area. I emailed a local reporter this morning:

I hope your coverage will make clear that this is a SMALL number of people...and some are activists who do NOT live in Murrieta. As a resident of the Murrieta/Temecula area, I am embarrassed that this media coverage is biased toward creating conflict that may not be significant. Coverage exaggerates the size of the conflict and paints all Murrieta residents as Tea Party-type racists, when the truth is there are many caring, multicultural families here.

That is a story which needs your attention. Dividing the country in the name of ratings and readership is bad for all of us.

The protesters were a small group/percentage of the Murrieta/Temecula area. They are not representative of the whole area.

...would lessen if the media gave them less air. Media needs conflict to survive. When 50 Tea Party activists show up...sure, cover the story but report that 50 people are protesting. Report who they are. Report why the immigrants are here. Report on the irrational fear that these TP types express.

What they do instead is take a complicated story and make it black and white(think 'Crossfire'). They pit one side against the other.

Dividing an already polarized country is dangerous. That is not their job. Reporting is their job. Facts. Period.
