Mississippi's Modern 'Jim Crow' Law Now In Effect

Mississippi's Religious Freedom Restoration Act now allows businessowners to turn away LGBT customers if they claim their existence conflicts with their religion.

The law passed in April and was quickly signed by Republican governor Phil Bryant; it went into effect July 1. Several cities in Mississippi, including Jackson and Hattiesburg, are challenging the insidious law by passing resolutions affirming all patrons are welcome. Equality Mississippi is distributing stickers that proclaim, "We don't discriminate: If you're buying, we're selling."

The American Family Association has found a way to take umbrage with the stickers.“It’s not really a buying campaign, but it’s a bully campaign, and it’s being carried out by radical homosexual activists who intend to trample the freedom of Christians to live according to the dictates of scripture," AFA's Buddy Smith stated, according to Pink News.

Why not discriminate against women? And blacks? And people of other faiths? Seems like the same principle- My imaginary sky god doesn't like you, so I don't have to serve/hire/treat you.

Americans are going to have to stand up and stop this, and I think they will. But I also think things are going to get worse before they get better.

And all the money we raised went to AIDS projects (we were all volunteers so it was 100% donated proceeds of what we raised).

Well the night before the march performing during one scene I fell off the stage, then spent the night having my leg set. I was so pissed that I couldn't march in the parade (everybody in the hotel lobby knew it). Well guess who else was staying at the same hotel? D**** on bikes. They heard me and literally picked me up and said you want to be in the parade, you'll be in the parade. They rigged it so I was riding on one of the motorcycles handle bars with a full leg cast draped in a PRIDE flag. Of course I was flaunting it for all I was worth.

Thanks to those ladies, I got to march and had the time of my life (broken leg & all!).

No one is attempting to impede their First Amendment rights to self identify as Xtian fundamentalists who choose to discriminate. If they can not bear the responsibility of their hate, that is entirely on them.

And apparently, they're trampling your religious freedom at the same time. Your freedom to, um, not sell stuff to gays, as required by the covenants of the First Church of Not Selling Stuff to Gays, I guess.

Don't these lunatics suffer vertigo from all that crazy spin?

Merchants who display such slogans have little to lose.

Few sane people will purposely avoid a business, I imagine even in the deep south, just because they refuse to discriminate, so it's a win/win bet.

That in turn will likely cause shame and some loss of business to merchants that use the law as a license to express hatred.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be so abrupt. I have been on a steady burn since the SCOTUS decision. Five "Christian Men" stood up and discriminated against women. The highest court in the land used twisted logic to say that women are not equal to men. They did it for the "Christian" owners beliefs.

And now here we have another law that denies LGBT equal rights all for the sake of these hypocrites beliefs.

These idiot's religion does not trump our rights and our beliefs. I am angry as hell and frustrated beyond belief.

William.
