By Alex Seitz-Wald
Speaking at his Pennsylvania campaign headquarters this morning, Mitt Romney attacked President Obama as out of touch for spending too much time at Harvard, where the president went to law school. We have a president, who I think is is a nice guy, but he spent too much time at Harvard, perhaps, Romney said.
Watch it:
<...>
Unfortunately for Romney, his attack is undermined by the fact that the GOP presidential hopeful has twice as many degrees from Harvard as Obama. Romney earned a combined JD/MBA from the elite Cambridge, Massachusetts university. That means Romney spent an extra year at Harvard, getting the combined degree in four years, compared to Obamas three for the JD alone. Indeed, Romney thrived at Harvard by all accounts.
Romney has previously attacked Obama for taking advice from the Harvard faculty lounge, even though one of Romneys top economic advisers is Harvard professor Greg Mankiw.

Romney calls Obama "out of touch" but did you see the discussion on MSNBC showing that Romney doesn't even know how to use a cell phone? HAW!!!!!

(4 posts)Yes, kind of a foolish point for Romney when you look at his educational background.

(82,849 posts)You have previously opined on the right height for trees, perhaps you would favor us with just how much time is too much to spend at Harvard?
The real fun, however, will be whether the popular media notes Romney's own personal history with Harvard. If they do, how do they handle the inevitable hissy fit from the Romney campaign which will accuse them of anti-elitism or class envy or some other nonsense for noticing Romney's flaming hypocrisy?

(25,111 posts)Pres O will end Medicare he actually means Mittens and the insane GOP will end Medicare, Medcaid, Medi-Cal and SSI because we all know that the 1% needs the money.
Mitten's like the rest of the GOP field are two faced. Listening to N Haley about women and women's health solidifies that the GOP women like their counterparts hates their own gender, or better yet don't care.
Mittens don't want his religion mentioned but he's attacking Pres O's.

(135,425 posts)floor mopping involved. The guy might be trying to play the "elitist" card (with a complete absence of irony in noting his own Harvard history) but it comes off like he's playing the RACIST card.
Very ugly, indeed. He wears that frantic, needy desperation so openly--the guy will spend every penny to be called President...which is why he must be denied the title, unless he wants to be President of the Boy Scouts of America, or something...

(793 posts)It was just a short time ago that the LDS church kind of decided that black folks were kind of OK.
Mittens, I think has a benign racism thing going on, in which he thinks he a one percent white male should interpret the rules for those of darker hues than him.
So this is why he is doing all this to educate us all.
I am glad that Mr. Mittens will be around till November. Couse I think that most of us 99% could learn a lot about Mitt and his party and his beliefs.
Oh and I have seen how the Boy Scouts got screwed up by LDS, a few years ago.

(15,882 posts)example after example of the tactic of identifying your own weakness and then accusing your opponent of that to deflect criticism.
Rom$ney did it over, and over, over, and I bet he continues, though he hasn't the exclusive franchise, and she pointed out that it is a Karl Rove tactic - you can see it in others. She has a bit of a liability in that she seems too in love with her own voice to listen to others, and her latest commercial, kinda half-ass in support of social security, still manages to minimize the pain of millions of seniors who are really not "doing ok", while she is doing quite well. That may just be a precursor to support excuses to cut some future benefits to appease the mean Republicans - not sure yet. But she usually has a strategic reason for pushing a point of view.
Regardless, she does have some useful data and analysis once in a while, and that was one of those.

(2,331 posts)this is basic high school psychology.. pure naked projection. Shows he has a profound disconnection to himself.. dangerous quality for a president to have.. golly jeez..i guess if your religion is from outer space you have to have a little denial build in to your character... he said the other day OBAMA only says things to get elected!! this from the KING of tell em what they want to hear! lol! would be funnier if more people saw through his Obama derangement syndrome and blinders to his own qualities... He's just plain rambling creepy.
jtuck004
(15,882 posts)his handlers have a strategy, born from long success with those tactics, and there is a segment that will follow along, some that won't.
The radical conservatives have pissed off virtually every group except white men with guns, (they are already pissed off, apparently), but it is early, and November is a long time away, with economic slowdown almost a certainty. It is possible all that could become a non-issue and we start tanking on jobs again, 'cause we can only push so many home health care aides, baristas, and Walmart greeters out into the market.
Then it might be a different election. I just can't imagine living in a country where a person can buy up companies (take a cut), load them with debt they can never repay (take a cut), watch them go under (take a cut) and walk away (take a big, big, damn cut), and then become president on the bodies of the working people he destroyed, but I can see where people are in many cases feel and think that they are worse off after 4 years, and want a change, without looking that deep.
The question is will all or enough of the independents choose him or not.
Actually the Mormons do one thing I know of very, very well - which I can't imagine ol' phony $$ baloney doing - and that's practice community. They teach everyone to store food, and have a pantry where members who need it can get it - free if need be. They have their own small canning-quipment-equipped commercial kitchens in many communities, shared by members and sometimes the public. I don't participate in religion, but I admire what they have done in that regard. Ought to be more of those in regular communities, open to the neighborhood. Maybe we are going there...
