You think these decision's are only about women? Seriously? Think about that for a moment, would you, then get back to me. Thanks in advance.
It's the GOP creep and I mean that in every way. It creeps me out that they have such an unhealthy fixation on women's bodies and their functions. They are now voyeurs. They are creeping into our bedrooms and into our doctors office. I know women are creeped out by this. So how about all you guys?

and this a day or so after a long term poster stated this was a women's fight and others stating clearly the whole issue "bored" them and we needed to stop posting about it.

(8,434 posts)I honestly don't know how to put my anger into words. I'm against avoidable abortion, 100% for the option to have one, and infuriated by losing help in avoiding one.
As a guy, I can only partially comprehend the issue, but I am fully outraged by it.

(9,126 posts)Any guy who thinks this won't affect him needs to wake up. The fundies want women AND men to live like they do. Just ask Rick Santorum. Or Romney.
But now that I think about it, how many kids does Ryan have? Shouldn't we all go on witch hunts now to find out who's breaking the faith? Or our pro-life Democrats? Because if you don't have kids in the double digits, you're going to hell! Just ask Jesus, he had...oh wait.

in another post.
After 20+ years of marriage, if the laws the religious right want were in place, we would have upwards of 15 kids. This is most definitely a man's concern.

(38,322 posts)... figured it out after they'd had a few more kids than they could comfortably support.
My mom's doctor was explicit.
"Don't do this again. You and your next baby could die."
So my dad got a vasectomy.
My own kids have many cousins, in one's, two's, and a single three sibling batch. This is the way it ought to be.

(239 posts)The same argument could also be made for abortion; an accidental, unwanted pregnancy could and would affect a "real" man's life as much as the mother's (a "real" man as in one who wouldn't cut and run).
sheshe2
(83,835 posts)This is not about abortion, it is about BC. And no, BC is not an abortion. You do realize that do you not?
And I am not really interested what "real" men want. This is a woman's decision to use BC, not the courts and not her employers. It is a woman's right to chose to become pregnant or not.

(20,819 posts)pay for one, don't hit others up for it." WTF? Who the fuck WANTS an appendectomy? It's an emergency medical situation that no one wants and isn't "caused" by anything, and you MUST have an appendectomy if you don't want to either die or become gravely ill/injured. It's not as if it's a shiny new bauble or new car that you must have but expect others to just give you, for God's sake. I will never, ever understand people who consider health care, especially emergencies, to be just another consumer item that you have a choice regarding and that you should be denied needed care, or punished legally, if you cannot pay for. Attitudes like that are enough to make me physically ill.

(11,267 posts)I heard some people bitching that women get more healthcare than men. Christ, it isn't like "getting healthcare" is entertaining. It's usually agonizing and frightening and unpleasant, and even worse when it is all of that and also making you go broke. I'm delighted when I don't "get healthcare" because it usually means I don't need it. Knock on wood.

(5,402 posts)Because the law of the land is such that a pregnant woman can make decisions about birth control that could also affect the rest of any man's life, men do have a dog in this fight.
I am grateful the women I slept with had the good sense to use birth control. Any dude with a dick knows that talking to an intimate woman about birth control is an absolute necessity. And every dude with a dick knows that there have been times when good sense has fallen silent to the forces of hormones and desire. Contraception is a shared responsibility between the individuals in a couple. When she doesn't have protection, a man picks up the slack and uses a condom.
Sex is better without a condom. If the government wins on this one, a lot of guys will have to use a fricken' rubber condom for the rest of their lives.
We men do have a dog in this fight.
sheshe2
(83,835 posts)Contraception is indeed a shared responsibility.
Damn! This is a great statement of yours, that can be used to stimulate (pun intended) the conversation that this is not just a woman's problem.
Well said!!!!!

(63,221 posts)Another good point would be that if abortion becomes outlawed, women would be able to sue the biological fathers for child support whether they were married or not. With DNA testing, paternity would not be so hard to prove anymore.

(5,400 posts)Back in their younger days, if a woman they "had an understanding with" encountered some "female problems", they'd then arrange for some funds to come her way and ... problem solved.
This newfangled way is unseemly.

(81,389 posts)government - for government to get out of your life and your privacy, and off your back. So I guess they reason that the government has to go somewhere, so let's insert it into a woman's womb. Or hey, kids! How 'bout up her vagina! Yay!!!
Where I come from, forcible entry into a woman's womb, or her vagina, is called RAPE. PURE AND SIMPLE. Therefore, what the GOP espouses and is trying to shove down our throats (and up our vaginas) is state-sponsored rape. And state-sanctioned rape.
That is ALL.
sheshe2
(83,835 posts)Maybe possibly probably not Veepstakes contender and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley vetoed a bunch of stuff this week, claiming all of it is "pork." Among the pork she declared unkosher? Funding for the arts, and unnecessary shit that the taxpayers don't need to pay for, like funding for victims of domestic violence and rape. Quit mooching, victims! Pay for your own damn rape-doctor, or whatever!
Haley slashed a half million dollars from the state's rape crisis center, which exists to help victims of sexual assault navigate the legal system alongside trained advocates, so they don't have to do it alone, according to WISTV. The center's director expressed dismay that Haley seems to think that it's doing "the taxpayer" a disservice to help women who have been raped.
"The taxpayer" is Tea Party code for "white dudes," btw. If you're a lady, you're not a taxpayer. You're a dishwasher!
snip
Well, if only a small portion of the chronically ill or abused will be shat on, I guess it's okay. Carry on with the fuckery, Haley.

(61,695 posts)Nevermind that some women have irregular cycles, meaning they could have sex right before an unexpectedly early ovulation, causing a pregnancy. Or that work, work travel, fatigue, stress, etc could interfere with opportunity for coitus during nonfertile periods. If prescribed contraception had not been available, there were times when my husband and I would have only rarely had sex. Real life gets in the way of NFP.
Some NFP proponents push the idea that couples grow closer while having to wait for sex. But there are many couples whose sex drives are stronger and wouldn't be happy with waiting.
locdlib
(176 posts)is in terms of something that only affects women. They are so profoundly stupid that they cannot figure out that both the man and the woman determine when/if they want children. It all comes down to them seeing as children as the ultimate punishment for people having sex.
