And why is this phenomenon not seen on anywhere near the same level in any other Western democracy?

She was always a weak-minded woman intellectually, but stubborn as a 100% Pollack could be. She fell in love with a rw whacko, and even though he's dead now, promoting the Right Wing propaganda fills her days and defines her life.

For a woman raised Catholic, she's amazingly intolerant and un-Christian....

Calling such people "un-Christian" - while I don't disagree with the sentiment - is a bit of an oversimplification, I'm afraid.

Though I should note that, despite being a non-believer (maybe not "atheist" per se) my own political views have certainly been influenced by the more progressive, social-justice-oriented wing of the Catholic Church, having gone to Catholic school all my life (aside from college).

She's not into social justice, or progressive change, or any of the good side. She's truly evil, and smug about it. You should SEE the stuff she forwards to me!

She's more Old Testament than the Jews.

going back to at least the 50s when Ike ran against the pointy-headed intellectual Adlai Stevenson. While there are definitely strains of it in countries in Europe, it's never grown like it has in the US... at least not since before WW2.

(aside from Liverpool and Manchester) is known as a bit of a backwater. Yet none of these other countries, overall, have the pervasive knee-jerk ultra-conservatism we see in much of the U.S. (and even in the rural areas of blue states). Millions of people who are utterly ignorant and hateful, and proud of being so.

I have been working in Calgary for almost a decade and I have still yet to experience this supposed hotbed of right-wing extremism. If Calgary and Edmonton are hotbeds for anything it is a particularly irritating variety of hipster.

Wishful thinking if there ever was.

The GOP establishment is dedicated above all other agendas in assuring their base is chock full of nonstop aggressive moron tomfuckery. The goofier their zombie followers get, the more dependable they are in getting to the booth.

And that's a fact, jack.

One day when I was going through radio channels, I listened to a random Fundamentalist preacher for less than a minute. He insisted that Islam was just another part of the Hindu religion. I thought, "No you dolt, Islam is an Abrahamic religion."
