Should The Government Have Given Money To the American People?

Most DUer are aware that for a few years the government has been using about $80+ billion per month to put money into Wall Street. For a while now I have been thinking that it would have been better if the government had given the money to the American people. My feeling is that if the government had to give money away it would have been better for the money to go to the American people instead of Wall Street.

It seems to me that would have made the economic recovery more even. In addition, it seems the recovery would have been better in that more people would have had money to spend, which could have put more money into the economy. Also, it seems the money could have ended the mortgage crisis sooner. A number of people who were struggling to pay for their houses could have gained at least a little relief from their mortgage bills. Finally, the money could have given people the ability to train for new skills that could have allowed them to get new jobs faster.

So, what do others think? If you do not like the idea what would you have done?

Please say you are sarcastic. The government put that money into the stock market to not only help the markets equalize and actually help everyone's retirement accounts, but we made money off the deal so in the end we have more money in the treasury. Had we given that money to every American, the stock market may have crashed with companies going with it, but we would also have added a tremendous amount of debt on or already big debt. And finally we would not have made any additional money which is going to help the treasury and in the long run the economy. You do know that this is one reason President Obama is slowly winning on the economy which will help in the midterms. Big picture!!!!!
