My boss asked me to do something (it doesnt matter what) So I did what he asked and then got my A$$ handed me on a silver platter. When I told him he was the one who told me to do it he said I should have known better since I was trained, I wasn't trained.
After sitting for 9 hours waiting for new instruction for the next assignment he sends me an assignment that was completely out of line with the previous assignment in fact it was more against what he chewed me for.
So I rejected it and put the reason as I was not trained properly to do the assignment and my boss chewed me out for doing something like that earlier today. I got a call from my boss and he called me a smart a$$.
So I got on the phone and called my previous employer whom I left in very good standing and asked if there was a chance of coming back to work for them, he said they would love to have me back and could not figure out why I left. I then sent an email to my boss and said as soon as I get back to the home base I'M DONE.
Part of what drove me to leave was my heart wasn't in to the job and being away from home for 10-11 days at a time, I thought it was when I started. Also when I figured out my wages I was getting minimum wage.
So all in all I am happy-er

(15,391 posts)Are the least valuable employees from their groups and are promoted because everyone else does better actual work and would be missed more. I remember my first corporate job as a contract-to-hire programmer. A payer-analyst told me to do something, and I told her no because it wasn't the proper way to do things (in fact, there was a chance it was illegal - we worked with HIPAA claims). I was very professional and explained to the PA (who should have known) how things needed to go, but I still got called on it by the payer analyst manager, who felt the need to essentially tell me that as a contractor I was lower than dirt. Fortunately, my team lead went with me and told her to shove it because as a still new lower-than-dirt contractor with less than 2 weeks experience I had kept the company from doing something illegal that her PA with 2 years experience shouldn't have been asking for in the first place.
My team lead was pretty much the only manager-type person who knew what they were doing as he had been in so many different departments that he knew our entire process of doing things at every level. I too eventually told my boss (the manager above my team lead) to take the job and shove it and told him that I was leaving because he had made promises to me and weren't keeping them and as long as I was working directly under someone like him who had no integrity I would never move ahead in the company. Later that day, my team lead went and chewed him out as well. It felt good.
Good for you - especially on not giving them 2 weeks notice. Companies don't give that to their employers, and many times employers don't deserve it in the first place.

(37,573 posts)and often tell this joke.
The coach was in a tough spot. His first string quarterback was injured and so was the 2nd string quarterback and 3rd string and fourth string and fifth string. So he looks at the sixth string quarterback, figuring there is no hope and let's just get through the half if we can and try to save field position.
Rather than confuse him and cause a mistake with complicated instructions, he keeps it simple and tells him "run the ball straight ahead three times and then punt."
They have the ball on the twenty and on the first play he runs straight ahead.
And he's incredible. Quick, and tough. They cannot bring him down. He runs to the forty yard line.
Second play, same thing. He darts and bulls ahead to the other team's 35 yard line.
Third play, same thing again. He plows down to the two yard line.
The coach cannot believe it. It's first and goal. They are gonna score a touchdown.
On the next play, the quarterback backs up and punts the ball out of the stadium.
He walks back to the bench and the coach runs over to him screaming "What the hell were you thinking?"
Guy says "The whole time I was thinking 'man, we sure do have a dumb coach.'"
I heard this joke somewhere. Maybe it was Richard Pryor and the real joke was something like
"Second fu$%ing play, same motherfu$%ing thing. Mothefu$%er darts and bulls ahead to the other team's motherfu$%ing 35 yard line.

(523 posts)Good for you and I wish I had your luck.
I was forced out of my longtime job - ten years under one boss who had known me from years before and I got good ratings and raises every year. Then that boss retired and they brought in one with a good resume (but it turned out that a little digging revealed that his series of important sounding jobs, each only a few years long, was because each employer was eager to hand him off to someone else) who, for seven years, couldn't utter a single word of praise or encouragement. But I loved my job and my coworkers even if I didn't love my boss. Then he lowered the boom and forced me out. I was almost suicidal - and then I got hired again elsewhere and, amazingly, they praised me even when I was doing only a fraction of what I had done before.
Keep track of your nasty old boss just in case. My sister-in-law remembered a nasty boss from one of her longterm jobs; he made her life unbearable .... and then he disappeared along with a quarter-million in company funds. Years later they're still looking for him, and she's been delighted to tell the authorities the names of his various relatives and friends.

(9,494 posts)If my clients have a problem with something I am doing, I either change it because I agree or pick another client from my waiting list. I feel that the entire time I worked for other people was a complete waste of time. I've been on my own for 20 years now and I can barely remember what it was like to wish away 5 days out of every week of my life.
Plus, I give myself a nice raise every year and a year end bonus!
