(48,181 posts)MSFT's dominance is over and they need to refocus. Not that PC's are going away, or MSFT, but the huge annual growth of PC sales is over and innovation and growth is all about mobile, cloud, apps, and data.

(67,108 posts)but that need has been met and often many do not need the latest and greatest, so there is a good supply at hand. Now, the growth curve is pretty much asymptotic.

(13,598 posts)If there were new businesses coming along, they would need and acquire computers. I think the Windows 8 fiasco plays a role in this as it exemplifies the wrong direction Microsoft has chosen.
They have also abandoned the small business market with their server packages opting, instead, to push their monthly-fee "cloud" which few businesses are enthusiastic about for security reasons (as well as cost.) Business at Kerio is booming because of this.

I'm sure there are brilliant economists that have solutions ... but given the collective political climate in the US today, I have no idea how brilliant thinking will shine through the muck.
With increasing population, dwindling resources, ever increasing worker productivity and longer life spans, the model used for eons can not work.
Mature minds could think it through, but sadly many of our elected officials are highly immature and IMO a number lack the skill sets to accomplish this task.

Then you have to add in the poor XBox One sales and the Nokia acquisition. Sounds like they'll be RIFfing one employee for each employee gained in that acquisition.
