Cape Coral mayor endorses same-sex marriage
CAPE CORAL, FL -
While a Miami judge decides whether to overturn Florida's ban on same-sex marriage - mayors across the state are sharing their support for gay marriage.
Cape Coral Mayor Marni Sawicki is the first mayor in Southwest Florida to publicly endorse same-sex marriage.
Her endorsement leaves Florida with the highest number of supportive mayors in states where gay marriage is banned.
Sawicki took to Facebook Wednesday to announce she supports the Freedom to Marry Initiative.
Debbie Defaira is a Cape Coral resident and said she thinks its about time a local mayor got on board.

I live in the unincorporated area Just outside the city limits of Cape Coral. What's great about this story, she is the only Mayor in S.W. Florida to do so and she was just elected last year and beat out a roughneck conservative who is still to this day contesting losing to her in court.
S.W. Florida is probably one of the reddest parts of this State and she just put a crack in it here.
