There was another AN-26 shot down, on Monday. However, ITAR-TASS reported a 2nd AN-26 shot down today, in the area the airliner came down:

DONETSK, July 17. /ITAR-TASS/. Militiamen of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) brought down a military transport Antonov-26 (An-26) plane of the Ukrainian Air Force on the outskirts of the town of Torez, eyewitnesses said.

A missile hit the An-26, it fell on the ground and caught blaze, they said.

On July 14, militiamen of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic downed another An-26 of the Ukrainian Air Force.

"In the vicinity of Torez, we just downed a plane, an AN-26. It is lying somewhere in the Progress Mine. We have issued warnings not to fly in our airspace. We have video confirming. The bird fell on a waste heap. Residential areas were not hit. Civilians were not injured."

The AN-26 is a turboprop, much smaller than the airliner, so it should be easy to tell what it was at the crash site.

4. I heard a translation read out on CNN.

I was unaware of another An-26 being shot down today and nobody else is reporting that.

Also, where they report the an-26 coming down is in the same area where the airliner went down. There are no reports anywhere else of another plane coming down in this location.

Sounds to me the rebels mistook the airliner for an An-26.

7. Right. Only one plane came down today. Strelkov claimed credit for downing it.

It was the Malaysian plane. Strelkov claimed that they'd downed an AN-26; then deleted the claim when it became clear that they'd downed a civilian aircraft.

In other words, the "rebels" have already admitted to having downed the Malaysian plane.
