Darrell Issa’s stinking pile of festering hypocrisy

Here’s the backstory.

Issa is fishing for anything he thinks is scandalous coming out of any corner of the entire Executive Branch of the Federal Government aka “the White House.” From the day he took the committee reins to now, Issa has accused President Obama of basically everything impeachable to just being a, well, bad president. Blah Blah Blah. That just bores me. If Issa has specific evidence, then he should show it. Otherwise, he should shut his cake hole because frankly if I wanted to be bored, I can do that at home for free – at no expense to taxpayers.

But now Issa is doubling down. He’s subpoenaed David Simas, the director of the White House Office of Political Strategy and Outreach, to testify before his committee because he thinks Simas and staff are engaging in overt political activity as government employees which would be a violation of the Hatch Act. Simas and the White House are pushing back, saying he nor his staff are doing that and as such, there’s no evidence of any such wrongdoing.

But wait, this gets better. This is where the stinking pile of Issa’s festering hypocrisy shows up.

Go back to 2008 when the House Democrats compelled President Bush’s counsel Harriett Miers to testify and she refused, citing executive privilege (just like Simas). So, the House Democrats voted on the Floor to hold Miers in contempt. Why did they do that? Well because the White House fired a whole bunch of U.S. Attorneys without cause and she was White House counsel. Democrats wanted to know why and the White House told them it was none of their business.

So, the House voted to hold Miers in contempt and guess who stormed off the Floor and refused to vote on the Miers resolution? Yeh, that would be Darrell Issa and 172 of his GOP colleague. They called it a sham.

Fast forward to today, and wait, oh my goodness, it looks like Issa either has selective amnesia or he’s just too damn stupid to remember what he did back in 2008. I’m thinking it’s the latter.

So yeh, it looks like we’re all on another taxpayer-funded Issa fishing trip that has come up short. It reminds me of that bumper sticker I see from time to time on the back of a rusty ole truck tooling down the road out where I live in the Virginia mountains: “a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.”

Too bad Issa’s work is to use taxpayer funds to go on endless fishing expeditions that have turned up nothing nearly seven years into the Obama administration.
