Current TV wasted no time filing a countersuit on Friday in its bitter divorce from Keith Olbermann, the anchor who was expected to be the star and foundation of the cable networks future.
The suit was filed in Superior Court in Los Angeles, as was Mr. Olbermanns on Thursday. It does not demand $50 million to $70 million in damages as Mr. Olbermanns did, but like his suit, it is filled with charges and vituperative characterizations of behavior.
In this case, Current accuses Mr. Olbermann of unprofessional conduct including unexcused absences and throwing a glass mug on the set. An e-mail about that incident obtained by The Times cites this as a dangerous incident, stating that the glass shattered and put other employees at risk of being cut or slipping on the water.
The substance of the countersuit has been cited previously in statements from Current: that Mr. Olbermann took too many days off (it charges he missed 19 of 41 work days in January and February), sabotaged the network with his absences and disparaged the management.
The suit makes the broad charge that Mr. Olbermann did not respect the viewers or support the mission of Current as a progressive network.
