After expressing some candid on-air criticism of MSNBC, network contributor and Rula Jebreal is wondering if she's in the cable news channel's dog house.
Jebreal said in a tweet Monday evening that her "forthcoming TV appearances" had been canceled, and that there might be a "link" between that and her comments earlier in the day in which she said MSNBC's coverage had been biased toward Israel amid the nation's ongoing conflict with Hamas.
Jebreal also used the appearance to address the ordeal of Ayman Mohyeldin, the NBC News correspondent who was mysteriously pulled off the network's coverage of the Israel-Hamas conflict last week. Many journalists, including Jebreal, believed the decision was politically motivated.
"Listen, the Ayman Mohyeldin story, let's talk about this. We are home and we can discuss this. Ayman Mohyeldin is covering the Palestinian side and we get upset," Jebreal said. "It's too pro-Palestinian. We don't like it. We push him back and thanks for social media that brought him in."
After a considerable backlash, NBC returned Mohyeldin to Gaza this weekend to cover the story.
In her tweet, Jebreal asked if the Daily Beast's Eli Lake had the same experience. During their appearance earlier on Farrow's program, Lake said he was "baffled" by Jebreal's contention that Israel received disproportionately positive press.

(14,061 posts)...when corporate, for-profit interests began scarfing up media outlets as a way to control the message that gets out here. Media in this country are not independent anymore, and if we think they are, we're not being honest. They are owned, much like every other societal institution, by something or somebody, and they are no longer truly working for the common good.
You have to serve first and foremost whoever signs your checks and pays your light bills. And unfortunately that ain't us.

(5,082 posts)Even here there is a list of DUers who always appear to try to convince us everything is fine from NSA to new war provocations. They go extreme and post pics of aliens anytime you suggest things aren't as the status quo seems. I like all your comments but soooooo sick of these puppeted parrots on other threads. Keep up the good fight. We don't get paid for this like some disrupters do.

What our Corporate Media does is to try to cover for Israel. But the internet has made that job far more difficult than it used to be. So they are under fire, all over the internet they are being trashed for their bias.
Imagine if we didn't have the Internet, they would have total control of the 'message'. Back in the good old days, they didn't have to hear from the people, they were essentially talking to no one. But now, people can go to their twitter accounts and tell them what they think.
Can't stand Farrow btw, if this supposed to be a Liberal show, we are in trouble.

(13,685 posts)I am quite impressed how properly educated most people are about Israel these days. Must be the internet?
Internet is out of control. Most of the old timers in the newsroom are not even close to knowing as much as some dU peeps, and we sure are bringing up the young ones the right way. I think.
I don't watch the tv, but used to, and known a few in the bizz. Its future is in trouble, especially if they don't get out from under the thumb of corp and foreign powers.
And hey, if not for the internet i'd never the pleasure of hearing from sabrina 1, so cheers!
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)far more educated now about this situation and Israel is losing the information war. They are not making sense to rational people. All their previous talking points are being rejected. They keep repeating them, 'human shields' eg, but it isn't working. I saw one of their military commanders I think it was on RT yesterday. She insisted that they were being very careful not to kill children. She repeated the 'human shield' talking point, and she looked like she actually believed it.
As Jon Stewart said, 'wtf are they supposed to go'? When people were dependent on TV, they didn't know the geography there so they got away with it for a while. NOW, no one believes them. People are seeing those tragic images of, now I believe nearly 100 dead children and it is heart breaking.
I do think it is the internet.
Lol, what a nice thing to say, and I would not have the pleasure of speaking to RobertEarl either, I wouldn't even know he existed!

(11,833 posts)I bet it would be successful. She's knowledgeable and provides good detail. I thought that Farrow guy was horrendous - repeatedly interrupting her and denying the obvious. They usually give articulate Palestinian voices 15 seconds and talk over them. Then they give articulate Israeli voices a lot longer to expound their views. It's time for positive change. It's 2014. Peace is in everyone's interest. Or, it should be.

(11,833 posts)but he seems like an obnoxious preppy twit. Oh, I guess I didn't hate saying it. Actually I kind of enjoyed it. We need more people of color, more women, more people from different countries, on television. I prefer watching stuff online, like BBC News. It's less inflammatory, and they let the guests talk without constantly interrupting. I noticed a similar thing watching the World Cup. The British announcers were witty and didn't babble incessantly like most of the American announcers.

(62,325 posts)say what you think. I agree regarding needing more diversity on TV. Many of them seem to be related to one powerful and/or rich family or another. There are so many great young journalists but they can't get jobs on the MSM, too truthful.
I hate the interrupting, and agree, that doesn't happen so much in other countries. I just turn it off when they start talking over people.

(67,108 posts)sources, such as BBC news. So often American TV is predictable propagandistic canned chatter. True of other sources too, sometimes, but often the former comes to mind when watching, for example, American TV news. It all tends to follow the same script, just the content changes.
