Jimmy Carter calls for end to fighting in Gaza

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has called for an end to the fighting and bombing in Gaza.

“Both sides must distinguish between combatants and noncombatants, and Israel must ensure that its use of force is proportionate in accordance with international humanitarian law. More immediately, all combat operations must stop, and Israeli troops should withdraw from Gaza,” Carter said in a statement released Tuesday.

So far, more than 600 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed in the fighting, according to reports. The Israeli death toll is estimated at 29, including two civilians.

Humantarian groups have also called for an end to the fighting, citing the civilian loss of life as well as deteriorating conditions in the area.

Carter also called on the international community to use a ceasefire agreement to ” advance the reunification of Palestine if there is to be sustainable peace between Israelis and Palestinians. The agreement must include implementation and international monitoring mechanisms.”

Your comments are all over the place. Are you expecting the Jews to leave all of Israel? Or should they be removed?

Your comments really don't make much sense.

Neither the Kingdom of Israel, the Kingdom of Judah, nor the Herodian kingdom extended there. Gaza was inhabited by the Phillistines.

King Nebuchadnezzar destroyed the Philistine cities of Ashdod, Akron, Ashkelon, and Akron in 604 BCE.

And, Philistines are not the arab occupants of Gaza. They were a proto-Greek people, probably from Crete.

Sea-faring raiders who tore up the coasts all over the area, including Egypt.

... they kill them all. They have them pinned in there. What I can't figure out is how Hamas gets all of it's rockets, supposedly from Iran. How do they get them in there? Why doesn't the Arab nations do something to get the Palestinians out of there? I know... they don't want to go. If they choose to stay, even though they might be killed in these wars, what can anyone do? I heard someone say there were 1.8 million people there. I wish to hell Saudi Arabia would give them a little piece of the dessert so they could live in peace, for God's sake. God? What God?

How old was Reagan in his second term?

Maybe Pres Carter can use a little greecian formula too. I know it is unrealistic, but as long as he had a good choice of VP I would vote for him in a minute.

We should allow Hamas fulfill its designated charter and let them kill all the Jews in Israel (which is what its charter says, BTW).
