23. I spoke to three Texas DPS Troopers the other day while having my hair cut.

Two had just returned from a two week deployment to the border. One said he was assigned to one of the six gun boats. The trooper said they got into two encounters with shots fired while patrolling. Both times was with drug smugglers. One showed me the phone photo he had of an IED they found in the bed of a truck trying to cross the border. It was baby food jars with nails taped around the outside. He claimed the jars were filled with blackpowder.

I don't know the answer, but I think this whole thing is about to blow up and it is going to be a bloody mess.

they have six of them to patrol the Rio Grande.

Next month, the state's Department of Public Safety will deploy the first of a fleet of six gunboats on the Rio Grande, the river that forms the border between the state and Mexico, CNN affiliate WFAA-TV reports.

The 34-foot-long boats, each powered by three, 300-horsepower outboard engines, will have bulletproof plating and six machine guns apiece, not unlike the river patrol boats the U.S. Navy used during the Vietnam War.

The vessels will be able to operate in as little as 2 feet of water, according to the report, and will work with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to combat drug smuggling coming across the Rio Grande.
