Yet it's a truly wonderful and respectful way to receive the departed.

after the initial downing of that flight. The way these people were treated by the Ukranian "rebels" (I don't even know how to refer to these individuals) and Putin's government was reprehensible.

BBC had live coverage of the coffins being carried to the hearses - one by one,
and the thousands of Dutch folks who lined the streets.

It just brought tears to my eyes. Each coffin was brought down and carried by military pallbearers, each coffin had its own hearse. The Dutch were according honor and dignity to the dead that they had been denied in the ruins of the plane, where their bodies and luggage had been looted, their bodies left to rot on the ground.

That said they got there faster than Bush reached both the living and the dead after Hurricane Katrina

Flags were flown at half-staff, and the nation's iconic windmills were placed in "mourning position" -- wings tilted to the right. Courts suspended all trials, and even commercials were pulled from Dutch television and radio.

Buses and trains were to stop on roads nationwide during the moment of silence, and landings at Amsterdam's Schipol airport were paused as a sign of respect.

...some of the world's most civilized people.

I am sorry that they have been hit with this level of national trauma.

The only thing I do feel confident about is that they will respond with dignity, courage, and compassion.

Holding you all in the Light, friends.

sadly,
Bright

Thousands of Dutch lined the roadways and the overpasses en route. Some holding flowers, some taking pictures, some applauding the return, some singing, some standing silently. It was really very moving. Simple and heartfelt.

I'm old and have seen so much tragedy, add this one to the list. The poor families of those lost in this senseless event.
My thoughts are with all who are suffering.
