Bernie Sanders: Pulled out from under the bus.

It's wonderful to see how Bernie's been rehabilitated in the eyes of Sensible Democrats. Not so long ago, Bernie was an unrealistic fringe player spouting crazytalk.

Times have changed.

Now Bernie is a sage, his every utterance and action examined and loudly proclaimed by the Sensible Set (as long as it's not some inconvenient claptrap, like "Let's not starve and freeze old people by diverting their Social Security benefits to tax cuts for the rich&quot .

"Bernie agreed with Obama!" "Bernie voted for X along with Democrats!" "Bernie didn't attack Hillary".

It's wonderful that Bernie's getting the respect and attention that's his due, and I'm confident it will continue if/when he launches his campaign for the Democratic nomination for President.

Regards,

First-Way Manny

in fact given the opportunity I would pack the house and Senate elbow to elbow with people just like them, long before I send any of those people to the White House.

Only when Congress is packed to the gills with good solid leftists - or at least, left-of-center people, I'm not horribly picky - will I start casting about for someone to take the captain's chair. And whoever that is will not be extracted from the Legislature, because we need liberals making the fucking laws.

usually. I want Sanders, and/or Warren and/or Grayson to do that.

I am tired of the third-wayers. They bailed out the banks and left homeowners to fall into bankruptcy. That was morally wrong, absolutely despicable.

I did not lose my home, but I know people who did. It had a negative effect on them and especially on their children. That was an ugly thing to do -- to let so many homeowners bear the brunt of the economic recession. Horrible. Shameful. And I will not vote for Hillary because Bill signed Glass-Steagall and NAFTA and many other poison-pill bills. The third-way Democrats are not the friends of ordinary Americans.

In addition, Hillary showed poor judgment and a lack of care and attention to detail in her vote for the Iraq War. Thousands died in part because of her vote.

Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Alan Grayson have shown good judgment about what is right for Americans.

Bernie Sanders is the most experienced and knowledgeable in general. Elizabeth Warren understands economics and law better than just about anyone in the Senate. And Alan Grayson is a fantastic speaker and fighter for the American people. I like all three.

Most of us have concluded that if you have not been making statements similar to Bernie's over the course of your political career, then you aren't a very convincing Democrat. So, why should we vote for you? Why should we think you'll turn into a champion of the people when you've shown no propensity to do so?

principles, not just on one issue, but most of them, makes him the most desirable candidate for the WH. However, that very record is what will prevent him from getting there. He will never be allowed to undermine the Corporate Agenda that pervades both parties. They own the Republican Party, and have infiltrated the Dem Party with the Third Way candidates. If Dems win the WH again, it will be with a Corporate Dem. Sadly.

Sanders and Warren lack the courage we need in leaders by not objecting to the sense of the Senate Resolution supporting Israel and condemning Hamas. They can't hide behind the fact there was no recorded vote. The nation knows the unanimous Senate authorized the resolution. We need leaders that help the public know the truth. Sanders and Warren--not to mention Obama -- don't fit the bill.

I've not seen anyone throw Bernie Sanders under any bus on DU. What I've seen is DUers saying that he should run as a Democrat in the primaries in 2016, if he chooses to run. I've even said clearly that I'd vote for him in my own primary election if he runs. I don't believe he will be the eventual nominee, however, based on historical precedent. My vote will go to the actual nominee in November of 2016.

This thread attacks people in general who don't seem to actually be on DU at all. Perhaps your mind is deceiving you in some way on this subject. I'd hate to think that was true, though.

He supports the basing in South Burlington, VT. This will render 3000 homes "incompatible with residential use" per Federal noise/health standards as stated in the million dollar Environmental Impact Statement prepared by the Air Force.

Bernie's failure to oppose the basing and the whole F-35 program, in general, makes his speeches about cutting wasteful defense spending sound a bit hollow to me. He is betraying his career long legacy of supporting affordable housing.

For the money wasted on the F-35 already, we could have bought a $600,000 house for every homeless person in America.

Very sad about Bernie's support for this moral abomination. Shame on you Bernie!

These statements (substitute Warren for Bernie, same thing applies) seem to be lame attempts to get Sanders supporters to love everything about Hillary or Obama after all, because hey! Sanders didn't attack Hillary, so that means he thinks she should be president, so you should, too! That kind of thing.
It is what happens when those who are personality-driven as opposed to policy-driven forget everyone is not like them.
That stuff just makes me laugh, it is so transparent.
And then there are those who don't realise that they are the real purists - they have the "purity" of agreeing with everything a politician does just because they support the politician - calling others purists because others disagree with a particular policy is illogical. This leads to the "Bernie didn't attack Hillary" stuff - because Bernie did not attack Hillary, people who admire Bernie's policies and do not admire Hillary's policies are supposed to now admire Hillary. Nonsensical at best.

It is policy, not personality.
