I needed a smile tonight. A long week of sadness. I needed some beauty, the children with the President are it.
And read #22!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! R-e-s-p-e-c-t, find out what it means to her. That is something everyone deserves, yet if I may, let me single out the sweet girls that to soon will be women. They get so little respect today and that saddens me. I won't go into it here, on this thread, however they will be our mothers and teachers and the most beautiful creatures.
For the children they are our bright and beautiful future. We all need to do this for them.

That book...of Thee I Sing. I gave that to my 4 year old grand niece. I read it first though.
Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters is a children's book by United States President Barack Obama, with illustrations by Loren Long. It is described by the publisher as "a moving tribute to thirteen groundbreaking Americans and the ideals that have shaped our nation." The stories of thirteen Americans are told in the book: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Neil Armstrong, Sitting Bull, Cesar Chavez, Billie Holiday, Maya Lin, Albert Einstein (who was born in Germany), Georgia O'Keeffe, Jackie Robinson, Helen Keller, and Jane Addams."
The proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to a scholarship fund for the children of fallen and disabled US service personnel. Obama finished writing the book in 2008, after he was elected but before taking office.

(5,005 posts)I marvel at how he remains civil in the face of so much obstinence and obstructionism. The republican house is a complete and utter disgrace.

and this one
R-e-s-p-e-c-t, find out what it means to her.
So heartwarming yet they make you want to cry, yes they do. Look at those beautiful faces of the children there. They are our sweet so very needed future. Yes many judge the color of ones skin. Yet it will always be the colors of your heart that shines through, so rich and so pure.

(5,005 posts)seems a bit more tolerant than the preceding one (as long as the idiot parents don't pass the hate along). Besides, the population is browning all by itself with immigration and inter-racial marriage.
My 24 y/o son's group of close buddies includes a gay dude, a bi chick, a black kid, a kid of Asian descent, and an Indian kid who came here when he was 8. When they all get together here it looks like Sesame Street. We love them like our own, and they're all friends for life.
