questions about a coupled web sites:

1. Any one look at huffintonpost? If so, do you have VERY bad response times? It is slower for me than my old dial-up was.
2. Any one look at thegrio? If so, do you have problems with being able to scroll down consistently? I frequently have to wait a long time before a scroll will work.

Just asking,
Thanks.

Yes on HP. Very slow download, to the point where I avoid the site. And terrible auto refresh. Shrike47 Jul 2014 #4

What you are describing sounds more like a slow computer/video card than a slow internet connection.

thegrio is a little slow for me but that is because they are shoving a ton of stuff on one page and it takes my older computer a bit of work to display.

...especially those damned auto-refresh thingies.

I do not go there for many reasons but their script-laden site is the main reason.

As for thegrio, I have no idea. It may be that you have to wait until all their scripts load before you can scroll.

Do you refuse to use Adobe Flash and other advertising plug-ins?

Some sites hate that. I think they use long time-outs to "punish" freeloaders.

I generally don't block internet ads, except for pop-ups and animations. But I also don't install plug-in software or allow scripts that make it easy for advertisers to track me.

I'll blacklist sites that do that. Huffington Post is on my shit list. I don't go there and I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

I don't see many ads in my daily life except for the static sort in newspapers, on billboards, or on the web. Those are easily ignored. My junk mail goes directly into the recycling bin unopened. I don't watch television or listen to commercial radio either.

I'm not "cheating" advertisers at all because I do my very best not to be a "consumer" and it's extremely unlikely I'd buy whatever it is they are selling.
