First up, Fifty Shades of Gray.
I'm sure there are a few others on DU who, like me, are tired of reading all of this bombast without knowing what the heck people are talking about. And some of the bomb throwers might want to read the thing too.

...As long as we are giving guidance on how we THINK other posters should behave on DU.

(71,265 posts)Alerting is not fun though, especially that posters can not post after 5 posts.

(8,846 posts)Next you'll be trying to implant the "Celestine Prophecy" into our brains. Then, "Say a Prayer for Owen Meany" to finish us off.

(6,719 posts)Can we generate a list of potential real reads? Currently I am reading Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett and the sequel set in the same area 200 years later is waiting on my counter. I am interested in good book suggestions.

(62,325 posts)is a very clever promotion campaign. Just think, if you made a terrible movie based on a terrible book that you knew would flop as soon as it was released, what would YOU do?
Well, I would start talking about, in horror of course, months and months before anyone got to see it.
I would attack it, get people arguing over it, all over the internet, on TV, everywhere.
And I would make a fortune as people rushed out to buy the book just to find out what everyone is arguing over.
Or maybe they really are just obsessed with the topic of sex. Who knows, I skip those threads, people are dying everywhere as the world appears to be imploding. Only the 'privileged' can bother with this trash, lucky them.

(9,070 posts)I've been reading The Second Amendment: A Biography. That's partially because of the gun thread arguments on DU. At least I'm trying to be informed on political issues.
I'm sure there are arguments, but 50 Shades won't help me learn more about the orientation wars, and it's not my type of entertainment.
Sometimes interesting threads are locked, but 50 Shades goes on and on......and I agree, ignore is your friend.

(37,748 posts)And I laughed about the 2011 production of Atlas Shrugged without seeing it. I'm laughing about Palin's new network without having seen it. I must be a heathen and a bomb thrower...
