U.N. Security Council Agrees On Demand For Gaza Cease-Fire

UNITED NATIONS — The U.N. Security Council agreed on a statement Sunday calling for "an immediate and unconditional humanitarian cease-fire" in the Gaza war between Israel and Hamas and scheduled a meeting at midnight (11 p.m. Dallas time) to adopt it.

The council will be meeting as Muslims start celebrating the Eid al-Fitr holiday marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. Its agreement to press for a cease-fire follows new attacks launched by Israel and Hamas despite going back and forth over proposals for another temporary halt to nearly three weeks of fighting.

A 12-hour lull Saturday was agreed to by both sides following intense U.S. and United Nations mediation efforts.

The presidential statement, obtained by The Associated Press, says a humanitarian cease-fire would allow for the delivery of urgently needed assistance. It urges Israel and Hamas "to accept and fully implement the humanitarian cease-fire into the Eid period and beyond."

The statement also calls on the parties "to engage in efforts to achieve a durable and fully respected cease-fire, based on the Egyptian initiative."

it says it is based on the Egyptian proposal, which required Hamas to cease combat operations but allowed Israel to continue them in their search for tunnels.

Is this the same kind of one-sided cease-fire? A stand-down for Hamas, and business as usual for Israel? If so, I wouldn't expect it to last very long.

country in the world should CONDEMN Israel and refuse to do any business with them until they STOP killing these innocent people.

THIS country needs to stop all flights into Israel, apparently THAT got their attention for some reason, cancel all money going to Israel from American taxpayers.

I have seen some of the most horrendous photos of the injured tonight, I will not post them as they are extremely graphic. This is MURDER of children.

The doctors trying to deal with all of this are overwhelmed.

There just are no words to express the horror people are feeling as they watch this and realized no one is going to stop it.

Just like Iraq and Libya and Syria and Afghanistan and now Ukraine and where will it be next, all this killing and violence.
