National Security Adviser Susan Rice was interrupted by a protester on Monday as she gave a speech on the conflict in Israel at the National
As Rice began speaking, the protester who had been sitting in a back row reserved for the press left his chair and stepped into the aisle directly in front of Rice. "The truth is, Israel is killing innocent people in Gaza!" he yelled.
"Stop the violence, stop the killing!" he yelled to news cameras at the event, holding a sign that said "End the siege of Gaza."
The man was forcibly removed from the room by staffers, who knocked over some chairs in a scuffle as they removed him from the auditorium.
"These are indeed difficult days," Rice continued calmly.
A reporter at the event captured a picture of the incident:

Good on the protestor. Too bad all the people in the room are gathered there today to admire the work Israel is doing, and won't be swayed by appeals for the humanity of the "Amalek"

(30,439 posts)The President doesn't the allocate money.
Congress determines where funds are to be allocated...
...and many times these allocations are tied up in massive, complicated appropriations bills.

(25,699 posts)As head of the executive, does the president have any control over any of that, thiugh?

(30,439 posts)If Congress allocates billions of dollars to Israel and attaches it to the defense spending bill, I suppose the President could veto the entire defense budget.
But let's not kid ourselves, that would never happen.
Even folks like Elizabeth Warren have stated that they support Israel and want to give Israel a qualitative military edge over its adversaries. This essentially means that pretty everyone in Congress, including Warren, supports giving technologically advanced US weapons to Israel which are used to kill Palestinians.

(25,699 posts)Congress is wrong on this. That includes Warren, and that includes Sanders. And if the president can only sit on his hands and mutter platitudes, then what's the fucking point?

(30,439 posts)So that's why I mentioned her. The poster linked to her website. I'm sure pretty much every person in Congress is in agreement on this.
What can be done about the funds going to Israel?
Pretty much nothing.

(29,503 posts)It's encouraging that there are still people with consciences who are willing to speak out, civilly, and condemn this mindless and senseless killing.
