BDSM Porn: BAD - It glorifies the abuse of women; no one could participate in such activities for rational reasons.
Non-BDSM Porn: BAD - it objectifies women; no performer could participate in such activities for rational reasons.
Have I missed a category?

(12,958 posts)I'm sure there is plenty of misogynistic stuff in fart porn!
All the 'Tops' I know in the BDSM world are dominatrix's, so that blows that one out of the water.

(355 posts)All porn is above criticism and only people who are prudes dare to question it category. This can also be referred to as the "Gimme my porn right now while he stomps his foot" category. Honest to God, I am through here. I can find a more nuanced, intellectually stimulating discussion on a sub-reddit.
There seems to be a significant number of people here who are incapable of holding more than one opinion about something in their silly heads at one time. It apparently is beyond their ability to grasp the fact that one can question certain elements found in certain types of porn but have no interest whatsoever in keeping others from porning away to their heart's content be it through consumption or participation.

I don't think the majority here are afraid to question much of anything, nor do I think they really give two shits what other people do in privacy

(48,121 posts)Back when there was talk about the SI cover there was some talk about how men liked to just self gratify themselves using any pictures of women not seen as natural (those women were not standing in natural poses, no one stands like that at the beach....)
So porn is any depiction of any person not in a natural way (ie, in a business suit at a meeting table, sitting behind a monitor smoking and drinking, in their PJ's, etc)....so any image of any woman if looked at (leering?) by a man could be seen as porn if he does not comment on the pic in a simple way -- like, "That is a nice photo, I respect the work done in making it and the scene of productivity in the workplace it shows" and so on. Women must be fully clothed/covered, no makeup, think factory worker in China. Otherwise, it is patriarchal misogynist porn men will use.
Porn is everywhere around you, I think it is called 'Ninja Porn' because you cannot see it until someone who understands it shows you it.

(82,383 posts)in our society right now. Porn and BDSM just lack that. Heck, sex lacks it, at least the way we look at it now. It's all so clinical or competition related and more like sports or just another job. If you want romance, you have to find novels at least 60 years old.

(66,509 posts)I was working in a book store once about 20 years ago. An old lady came in to return an audio book. She was upset because she thought she had bought a reading of the classic 'Sleeping Beauty'. Turns out, it was the audio book of the Anne Rice (Roquelaire?) erotic trilogy, read by Amy Brenneman.
I would have loved to have been there when this prim old lady put on the cassette and began listening...

Wonder what's on her mind when she watches The Kentucky Derby.

(66,509 posts)I looked it over and determined that she could not have got more than three pages into the story before realizing that she had chosen the wrong 'Sleeping Beauty'.
I never listened to audio book, but I always wondered how Amy Brenneman could have read the whole thing on to tape.
That would have embarrassed the hell out of me...
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)I wouldn't have listened to it.
BTW That's rather presumptuous of you to decide the little old lady quit after only 3 pages.

(66,509 posts)If she...uh...enjoyed...the audio book, wouldn't she have returned to the store to get the other two?...

She was so disgusted she read all three, bless her heart.

(111,417 posts)but pretty much covered it for the male-female. Even diaper fetishes could be considered a form of BDSM, along with golden showers.
I discovered the range of porn and sexual kink when I cleaned out student apartments one summer for money under the table. Funny that they'd leave their porn stashes behind with the ripped clothing and funky mattresses covered with stuff I didn't want to speculate about. I used gloves, naturally.
That was the summer I determined to mind my own damned business and let everybody else mind theirs unless I was a witness to somebody getting hurt.

(355 posts)admit I don't understand the appeal, being a straight woman. Many of the writers of gay erotica are also women and I can't understand that either. I write erotica (cough, porn) and I wouldn't be able to do gay sex or even the male sexual experience justice. I mean I have asked my husband to explain to me how a male orgasm feels so I can write a somewhat realistic male point of view but I feel limited in my ability to do so.
Lurks Often
(5,455 posts)go at it, some don't. I've always been curious about what the woman feels during sex.
We've come a long way in a relatively short time frame, same sex marriages are rapidly becoming legal everywhere, women being bi-sexual is generally accepted and even the idea of men actually be bi-sexual (as opposed to being gay and in denial about it) is coming to be acceptable.
With the United States being such a relatively prudish country, the leaps and bounds of progress in our views regarding sex and relationships we've made in just the past 20 years remains somewhat of a surprise to me. Course we still have a ways to go, but we are making progress.

(1,935 posts)... only half of porn even involves women. So, at most, these women are half right.

(574 posts)I'm really wondering why people spend time here. mean "Democratic" is right there in the name of the site, but what are we doing for Democratic ideals, Democratic action, and what? We're arguing over a crappy BDSM book that may be a good movie based on a crappy book, and for what?
Is anyone here interested in DOING SOMETHING to change the congress? In moving the Overton window a little? Yes, BDSM porn is cute, and fun for people outside of the community, but is that what this community (lightheartedly called the "Democratic Underground" is for? Opinions about porn? Who cares?
