Wasserman Schultz opposes Florida medical marijuana referendum

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/broward/broward-politics-blog/sfl-wasserman-schultz-medical-marijuana-20140606,0,5668427.story

Following her vote against an amendment to a bill in Congress that would restrict federal agents’ ability to go after marijuana users in states where the drug is legal, U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Weston, has also come out against Amendment 2, the proposed state constitutional amendment that would legalize medical marijuana in Florida.

The reasoning behind her opposition of the two items is quite different, however. According to her communications director, Sean Bartlett, voted against the federal amendment because “The congresswoman believes that it is not appropriate to limit the ability of the Executive Branch to enforce federal law at their discretion.”

But when it comes to Amendment 2, the congresswoman’s reasons fall in line with those of many who are already opposed to the state constitutional amendment. “I have concerns that it is written too broadly and stops short of ensuring strong regulatory oversight from state officials,” she said in a prepared statement.

“Other states have shown that lax oversight and ease of access to prescriptions can lead to abuse, fraud, and accidents. Also, given Florida’s recent history in combating the epidemic of ‘pill mills’ and dubious distinction as having among the highest incidents of fraud, I do not believe we should make it easier for those seeking to abuse the drug to have easy access to it.”

who will all be dead before the law passes, and then the state government dithers for years not setting up the ridiculous regulatory system they established.

It is pathetic. Here is how medical mj should work: doctor writes prescription as doctor sees fit, patient fills prescription at authorized outlet. See California. It works fine.

writes a prescription, but rather makes a recommendation to use cannabis medicines. More fact, many doctors in these States fear making that recommendation due to Federal interference, so many of us go see a specialist to get the recommendation at a rather excessive charge. This in itself is wrong.

Over here in the northeast the model is to make it basically impossible for anyone except dead people to get access. it is a freaking joke, and a sick one, pun intended. The dithering over mmj is having the unintended consequence of spurring full legalization.

Our leaders run away from issues that have any consequences or controversy. The party that owns legalization will win elections. The party that obstructs legalization will lose elections.

Federal marijuana bill would legalize some cannabis strains

(CNN) -- Doctors in Macon, Georgia, told Janea Cox that her daughter, Haleigh, might not live another three months.

That was the middle of March, when Haleigh's brain was being short-circuited by hundreds of seizures a day, overrunning the array of five potent drugs meant to control them. Worse, the drugs were damaging Haleigh's organs.

"She was maxed out," Cox said. "She'd quit breathing several times a day, and the doctors blamed it on the seizure medications."

Cox had heard that a form of medical marijuana might help, but it wasn't available in central Georgia. So a week after hearing the ominous diagnosis, she and Haleigh packed up and moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. There, Haleigh began a regimen of cannabis oil: four times a day and once at night.

Debbie needs to go. She's a right winger who has even endorsed Republicans over Democrats, same as so many of the current fucked up so called Democrats who are like Republicans, against this, against them, against that, against, against, against.
She's trying to preserve the image of Florida, Oxy Pusher to the nation? Seriously?
