Montclair State to make SAT optional for admissions next year
Starting next year, applicants to Montclair State University won't have to worry about their SAT scores.
The public university is joining the growing number of schools making SAT and ACT test scores optional for admission, campus officials announced today. Montclair State, which enrolls nearly 20,000 students, will be the largest traditional four-year university in New Jersey that will not require the test.
The university's admissions office will shift its emphasis to an applicant's grade point average and the specific courses taken in high school when selecting the freshman class for the fall of 2015. Students will have the option of submitting their SAT or ACT scores, but it will not be required.
As we choose each incoming class, our goal is to assure, to the greatest extent possible, that the students selected for admission are capable of succeeding in the universitys rigorous academic programs, said Susan Cole, Montclair State's president.
