After an even more bizarre 5 day absence from public view. I guess he was practicing. I think he needs more practice.
At what point do we get tired of this sort of thing?
Yesterday's NY Times account of Monday's Christie-esque conference. ( A little obiter dicta thrown in for good measure. Entire story at the link. )
>>>>>snip>>>>>>
>>>But even that was overshadowed: The questions he faced at a news conference focused mainly on with his dealings with the Moreland Commission.
Mr. Cuomo, who ran for office with promises to clean up state politics, established the commission with great fanfare in July 2013. He disbanded it midway through what he had indicated would be an 18-month life, in exchange for a modest package of ethics reforms. Federal prosecutors are now investigating the roles of Mr. Cuomo and his aides in the panels shutdown and are pursuing its unfinished investigations.
Mr. Cuomo was spirited, and at times truculent, in explaining his offices handling of the commission on Monday. But some of his comments contradicted what his office had written in the 13-page statement to The Times which itself had contradicted some of the governors earlier public declarations.>>>>>
....I'm trying HARD to follow.
>>>>>>While Mr. Cuomo said last year that the panel was totally independent, his offices statement said the panel was not, in fact, independent at all. On Monday, Mr. Cuomo returned to describing the panel as possessing total independence.>>>>>>>
I guess there's "independence". And there is... in addition to that.... there is *"independence"*.
>>>>>>snip>>>>>>
>>>>Last summer, Mr. Cuomo said the panel could investigate anything even his office. He reversed course in the statement his office gave The Times, declaring, A commission appointed by and staffed by the executive cannot investigate the executive.>>>>>>
Cuomo1: You're a liar.
Cuomo2: No. YOU'RE a liar.
Cuomo1: BullSHIT! I'm not the liar! *You're* the liar!!
>>>>>Asked about that apparent contradiction on Monday, the governor appeared to disown the statement to The Times.
I never said it couldnt investigate me, he said. I never said that. See, facts matter, even for The New York Times.>>>
Cuomo 2: See? I told ya'. *YOU* ARE THE LIAR.
>>>>>>>The Times article reported that Mr. Fitzpatrick had privately expressed frustration with meddling by the governors office, at one point emailing colleagues that Mr. Cuomos office needs to understand this is an INDEPENDENT commission and needs to be treated as such.
But on Monday, Mr. Cuomo dismissed that email as snippets of conversations, calling it wholly inconsistent with what the chairman says was the ultimate reality.
If you had watched the movie to the end, the name of the movie would have been Independence, the governor said. You named it Interference.
Thomas Kaplan reported from Buffalo, and Susanne Craig from New York.>>>>>>

(50,332 posts)told me he is no different than Chris Christie, they are political bedfellows who put political expediency above all else. I am glad to see the media finally holding his feet to the fire, it is long overdue, imo.

(47,953 posts)This is one case where I would not mind if they found enough corruption to can Cuomo. He is an entitled, arrogant prick who hates teachers and Unions.

(50,332 posts)pushing those same charter schools into public schools, using public monies to subsidize privatized schools while depriving public school students/teachers the badly needed funding. He really is appalling, imo, and, to me, he runs under the banner of Democrat just like Rand Paul runs under the repub banner, political expediency and not principle, imo.
