I thought only a President could do that.
My point is that everything FDR did, everything he accomplished, needs to be viewed through the prism of Japanese internment. To take 120,000 Japanese Americans, and put them into camps, is such an enormous violation of civil rights, of human rights, that it must always be considered when discussing FDR's actions.

(44,228 posts)Sometimes, very very rarely, those asshats are Democrats. And if they're anti-science whack-a-doodles, then by default, they're not "good" Democrats.
Much, much more often, I post in opposition to racist, sexist, anti-science asshats who are not Democrats. Asshats like white nationalist and Buchanan buddy Paul Craig Roberts, whose work you still like to bring to DU, even after promising you'd stop using him as a source.

Sorry if you don't think that's important.
As for web sites that print his columns, he can't control that. Neither can I.
What I can control is mentioning that you attempt to denigrate me by associating me with them, SidDithers of DU.
SidDithers
(44,228 posts)VDARE isn't simply a "web site that prints his columns, he can't control that".
He's an outspoken supporter of VDARE and their mission. He was the face of their fundraising campaign one year.
Don't pretend like you didn't know all this. It's been pointed out to you before.
And yet you continue to promote the writings of a racist white-nationalist at DU.
We've been 'round and 'round the issue of Paul Craig Roberts on any number of occasions. Personally, that's not the kinds of source that I'd be comfortable with. I really don't care what PCR, or David Duke, or Ernst Zundel have to say about economics or the NSA, because I find their opinions about race to be abhorrent. I don't think that commenters who have abhorrent opinions should be legitimized.
Your mileage may vary, obviously.
And I'm not going to engage in your fucking thread-jack any longer. If you want to discuss FDR and Executive Order 9066, or you want to post something else from racist shitbag Paul Craig Roberts, start a new thread. This thread is about Obama's highly commendable, and much overdue, call to put women of note onto currency notes. Too bad you don't seem to have an opinion about that.
Here's Marie Curie on a Polish bank note. I think having a female scientist like Curie on a bank note is an awesome reflection of a society that values women and science.

SidDithers
(44,228 posts)Please try to read my actual words, and not the words that your fevered imagination thinks I'm posting.
I said PCR condones and supports VDARE. You tried to make it out like VDARE was just some site that hosts his writings, "and he can't control that". We both know that to be a misleading statement.
Remember when you said this, back in 2012?

And yet here you are, still promoting him.
Anyway, back to the thread topic. Here's Jane Austen on the tenner. Pretty cool, eh?
Who do you think should be on American money, octafish of DU? Maybe Rose Kennedy?

(44,228 posts)Really, you should just stop making things up, and try to focus on what is actually said.
You continue to promote the writings of Paul Craig Roberts, despite the fact that you know he's a Pat Buchanan loving, racist shitbag, white nationalist And despite what you said in 2012 in this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002548165#post113
You know that Paul Craig Roberts is a vocal supporter of VDARE. He spearheaded their fundraising campaign.

" It would be a really nice finger in the face to the teabaggers and racists and jingoists who are terrorizing those poor unaccompanied immigrant kids.
AND the three you cite, as well. Wouldn't a Rosa Parks coin or bill be a poke in the nose!?
ALL FOR IT!!! I'd love to see one of MY gender on there, and not just the figurative imaginary "Miss Liberty." She isn't a real person. But Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubman and Eleanor Roosevelt (!!!!) ARE, and WERE.

Those words as much as stick a fire hose up their collective asses and give 'em a political enema with the force of Old Faithful. Too bad it doesn't clean out their vile, infected, racist, sexist, Troglodyte mindset, too.
For that reason, I would LOVE to see Emma Lazarus on a coin or a denomination of paper money. Just for the "so THERE" effect!

(14,559 posts)My mom was a WWII era 'Rosie the riveter' who had a job with National Biscuit Company. Basically, when most men were drafted to go fight, the women had to go into the factories and produce armaments, food, etc. for the war effort. One of the greatest things Eleanor Roosevelt did was put subsidized child care centers near the factories where the women were working. This made it easier for the women to balance their work and children. The thing is, Franklin NEVER would have thought of that; it took someone like Eleanor who understood women's issues. She also contributed tremendously to the concept of basic human rights through her work with the United Nations.
Of course, after the war Republicans immediately got rid of the subsidized child care, and vetoed Eleanor's human rights agenda in the UN because they were afraid it might adversely affect US business interests (read profits).
But think of how far sighted Eleanor Roosevelt was; when women entered the workforce in a big way beginning in the 1980s the issues she addressed clear back in the 1940s were still relevant. Child care, health care, freedom from harassment, safe living and work environments - all those things.
Eleanor should be on our currency for sure.
