Two peas on a whole shit-load of issues.
The outrage over Obama calling terrorist 'folks' from many on the right is just as absurdly pathetic as it is from the left. It makes me wonder if those vocal crazies on the left are entirely plants for the conservatives considering they seem to always fall back on the same talking points.

(6,145 posts)While you're at it be sure to explain that the torturers were just patriots acting in the heat of the moment. I'm sure they'll understand.

(19,877 posts)I'm actually glad he used 'folks' instead of terrorists being that most weren't convicted of anything.

(10,650 posts)I have no problem criticizing the president when I know he's made a mistake. That is not irrational. What is irrational is pretending any politician is always right or trying to rationalize mistakes.
In this case the use of the word "folks" doesn't bother me too much, but it does sound un-presidential. It is too colloquial for the seriousness of the subject. Even so, I'd give him a pass. At least he admitted the obvious, we had tortured people.

(53,032 posts)to imagine all power rests with the President, and that he alone is responsible for all that pisses you off. I would also say it is irrational to blame him particularly for aspects of our government and country that have existed for decades, if not since its foundation. I don't object to critiques or discussions on issues. What frustrates me, and frankly bores me, is the tendency to reduce it all to an individual, just as all hope for salvation is rested on an individual (currently Elizabeth Warren. ) It's intellectually facile, counter-factual and counter-historical.
