Toddlers to be 'protected from religious fanatics': New Education Secretary's cash threat to extremist nurseries

Nicky Morgan will warn toddlers must be protected from extremists

Will say they will be taught fundamental British values in an appropriate way
Proposals will also see nurseries that teach creationism will have funding cut
Announcement comes in the wake of the recent 'Trojan Horse' operation
Plot was by hardline Muslims to take over state schools in Birmingham

Children as young as two must be protected from religious extremists, the new Education Secretary will warn today.

Nicky Morgan will announce that toddlers are to be taught ‘fundamental British values in an age-appropriate way’ to help combat radicalism. In her first major policy statement, she will say local authorities will be compelled to use new powers to strip funding from nurseries found to promote extremist views.

Also under the proposed rules, nurseries that teach creationism – the rejection of evolutionary theory – as scientific fact will also have their taxpayer funding cut.

Mrs Morgan, who replaced Michael Gove as Education  Secretary in last month’s Cabinet reshuffle, will say: ‘One of the most important roles of the education system is that it should prepare young people for life in modern Britain.

‘One of the most important roles of the education system is that it should prepare young people for life in modern Britain.'

May this reasoning cross the pond to our shores very soon.

Mainly because creationists are idiots.

But this sounds an awful lot like a government enforcing it's beliefs on its citizenry through the power of the purse.

century.

My worry is that this government will only go after Muslim Right, and not Christian Right, schools. But I do think that if your school is being funded by the taxpayers, it is best that you learn to live in a pluralist, and science-based, society.

A significant part of the problem here is the former Education Secretary Gove's fanatical support for the expansion of academies and free schools (roughly the same thing as charter schools), which were funded by the state, but were organized and largely run by businesses and other groups, some of them associated with religious organizations, some just with big business and commercial interests.
