Her mother was in the passenger seat when her father got out of his car and started shooting, Lisa Kepler told police.
Shannon and Gina Kepler, both 24-year veterans of the Tulsa Police Department, were arrested late Tuesday after they turned themselves in while accompanied by an attorney, the Tulsa World reported.
A sobbing Lisa Kepler, 18, told local reporters, "I really hope they rot in prison for a very long time." She said she called police and reported the incident. "I turned my dad in," she said.

The father, Shannon Kepler, has been charged with first-degree murder. The mother, Gina Kepler, has been charged with being an accessory to murder. They are currently being held without bail.

(149,719 posts)I am saddened for her loss of her boyfriend.
I guess her parents thought she had fallen in love with the "wrong" guy.

(4,412 posts)Hard to say what possessed the parents to give up everything just to murder what appears to be a harmless 19 year old boy.

(65,490 posts)found out his daughter was dating a biracial young man and went over there to "defend his honor" by killing them both (since he also fired two or three shots at his daughter as she hid behind a rosebush). Apparently he also fired a couple of shots at the victim's 13-year-old brother, who was sitting on the stoop in front of the house:

According to jail records, Lake was walking with the Keplers daughter when they were confronted by a man driving a black 2007 Suburban. The daughter told police she recognized the SUV as her fathers so she walked over and spoke to him. She told police her father asked what she was doing in that area and she walked away. Thats when Lake approached the Suburban and told Kepler he was the daughters boyfriend, she told police.
The daughter said her father shot Lake two or three times, then shot at her two or three times, but missed. Kepler then drove off, according to the daughter.
A woman who said shes a relative of Lake told News On 6 he worked at the Day Center for the Homeless and met the Keplers daughter there when she needed a place to stay, and she had been staying with him recently. [...] Shannon Kepler was booked into the Tulsa County jail for 1st Degree Murder and Shooting with Intent to Kill. Gina Kepler was booked for Accessory after the Fact.

This second excerpt is from a different article. It was posted by one of the commenters on the bossip.com site. I wonder why most of the reports about this incident are glossing over the possible (perhaps probable) racial motive behind the murder.

(43,049 posts)for reasons she preferred not to talk about, but mentioned something about her "bad choices". Parents throwing their 18-year old kid out means something is seriously screwed up somewhere. They dropped her off at the homeless shelter where she met this guy and moved in with him in less than a week. At least they didn't kick her out of the car at a bus stop.
Then the father sees the guy for the first time and starts shooting. But it kinda looked like he might have been stalking them.
That's all we know. We don't even know if the father was drinking.
But it's enough to speculate endlessly and make a sad story even more spectacular.

(12,221 posts)It definitely looks death/gun obsessed.
It's actually creepy.

(4,412 posts)these parents threw everything away on account of he was black? If it's true than it makes the story so much sadder. I'm not sure what the situation was like in that home but obviously something was very wrong and this poor guy paid with his life. He only knew her a week too.

Guns in the hands of the public.

Anyone who wants to be a cop is probably unqualified on the basis of that ambition alone.

(6,342 posts)It has not been said what the gun was or even if police are in possession of it. Police haven't given out that information.
Apparently though this gets into why his wife was arrested too.

(1,375 posts)a policy regarding termination. Even though this particular case seems to be cut and dry not all accusations of alleged police misconduct are and if start firing officers on complaints before they are investigated and proven to be true and in the case of criminal misconduct charged it would be easy for people to bring forth false charges on over half the force and leave a department under-staffed.

I'm a trained police officer and had good reason to shoot. Did I mention he looked like that guy in the White House? Would you let your daughter be defiled by that sort of man? Did I mention that I'm a police officer with years of service?"
I hope this POS and his wife rot.

(62,276 posts)And I suspect as others say it was a racial thing (though they probably pawned it off as "bad influence" or crap like that).
No jury is going to ignore the sobbing testimony of the daughter who was attacked.

(904 posts)she saw the whole thing unfold as well as the boyfriends younger brother...this couple is cooked. Parents created this whole situation, who the heck throws out their underage child and dumps her off at a homeless shelter. If anything the boyfriends family saved her, his entire family showed her kindness, gave her a safe place to stay.

(4,412 posts)pretty white, including the little brother. I'm not so sure race is actually a factor. I think it's more a control issue. Either way I hope justice is truly served and these two spend a long time in lock-up.

He walked up to introduce himself and they opened fire?
Okay.
I won't run with it (like everyone else), but, okay.
Betting though. The deadly force will be deemed murder most likely but also betting they didn't shoot a smiling boy approaching them.
