although it IS a valid concern. Just saw a piece by Sanjay Gupta showing how it spreads before the initial "exposee" is even aware of it. It's pretty scary, but not sure we need to be UNnecessarily alarmed unless/until there's a viable concern for the U.S.

IMO.

The acupuncturist who thinks you can cure cancer with baking soda? And whose "doctor" title is honorary?

Sorry, not the sort of 'expert' I'm going to be turning to for actual scientific information about much of anything, let alone Ebola.

they are crazy too. Too much woo for me.... not to mention that he writes like such a hack you know. I find a disturbing trend online where people practice character assassination instead of debating the actual information.... pity that.

Resolving Cytokine Storms with Selenium

The highly pathogenic Zaire strain of the Ebola virus may be dependent on the trace mineral selenium (Se), due to the presence in the Ebola genome of several open reading frames (ORFs) containing clusters of up to 17 inframe UGA codons, which potentially encode the rare amino acid selenocysteine (SeC). This raises the possibility that Se deficiency in host populations may actually foster viral replication, possibly triggering outbreaks linked and perhaps even facilitating the emergence of more virulent viral strains. [2]

Selenium is a strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that can control the cytokine storms provoked from out of control infections. The clinical investigations in sepsis studies indicate that higher doses of selenium are well tolerated as continuous infusions of selenium as sodium selenite (4,000 μg selenium as sodium selenite pentahydrate on the first day, 1,000 μg selenium/day on the nine following days) and had no reported toxicity issues. In view of this new information, Biosyn introduced the 1,000 µg dose vials for such high selenium clinical usage.

The primary symptoms of a cytokine storms are high fever, swelling and redness, extreme fatigue and nausea. In Ebola a combination of factors lead to death so we chose a combination approach that deals with all the factors. In Ebola the immune reaction may be fatal with cytokine storms. To stop the cytokine storms and acute respiratory distress inject selenium or force the world of medicine to produce Dr. Emanuel Revici’s liposomal selenium, which can be administered orally in extraordinarily high dosages, much higher than is available through injections.

Dr. Revici’s greatest discovery was that if we want to deliver a nutrient to a sick cell – attach it to a fat. Unsaturated fats are the ultimate and perfect vehicle to deliver nutrients to stressed cells. This discovery enabled Dr. Revici to package therapeutic minerals, at will, to delivery only to sick cells. This gave him a huge advantage as a therapy developer – especially with selenium.

10. "But hey, he tries." Seriously?

Seriously???? He thinks they should be treating Ebola with selenium (for no good reason, btw) and you want to give him props for trying?

Is it still "character assassination" if it's true? He's a certified quack. Q-U-A-C-K. For some 'actual information' to back up my personal opinion, may I suggest:
http://sciblogs.co.nz/code-for-life/2012/09/02/bad-science-baking-soda-fungi-cancer-nuclear-fallout-rosacea-and-hilary-butler/

He's also an anti-vax cheerleader who thinks RFK Jr. is a hero for his anti-vax stance.

I cannot "debate" with you about "the actual information" on his website, because the things on said website are completely lacking in any of the characteristics of "actual information" -- you know, those pesky things we like to call "facts." You admit his idea of treating cancer with baking soda is nuts, but you're willing to accept his claims about other things? I am too cynical I guess, and lack the ability to be that trusting.

Dr. Levy, Dr. Jeanne Drisko, Dr. Klenner, many others and probably most ER docs would have fun with you. It's not good to downgrade that which you do not understand, best to read in order to arrive at a solid conclusion.

Review: micronutrient selenium deficiency influences evolution of some viral infectious diseases.
Harthill M.
Author information
Abstract

Recently emerged viral infectious diseases (VIDs) include HIV/AIDS, influenzas H5N1 and 2009 H1N1, SARS, and Ebola hemorrhagic fevers. Earlier research determined metabolic oxidative stress in hosts deficient in antioxidant selenium (Se) (<1 μMol Se/L of blood) induces both impaired human host immunocompetence and rapidly mutated benign variants of RNA viruses to virulence. These viral mutations are consistent, rather than stochastic, and long-lived. When Se-deficient virus-infected hosts were supplemented with dietary Se, viral mutation rates diminished and immunocompetence improved. Herein is described the role of micronutrient Se deficiency on the evolution of some contemporary RNA viruses and their subsequent VIDs. Distinguishing cellular and biomolecular evidence for several VIDs suggests that environmental conditions conducive to chronic dietary Se deprivation could be monitored for bioindicators of incipient viral virulence and subsequent pathogenesis.

baking soda, that was several years ago, he is still around. Perhaps you have read or studied up on Dr. Simoncini, you know the oncologist from Rome. Yes, indeed, he uses baking soda on cancer.... yes others have tried it on their own and lived to tell about it. I'm not saying it works, I am saying none of these people work for, or are related to Arm and Hammer. You really should watch Dr. Simoncini on youtube, you will rapidly learn how little we know, the last person on the video is a physician who administered baking soda through his mediport, yes he cleared, and yes he believes Dr. Simoncini, his final statement was that "sometimes the truth is so close in front of our noses that we cannot focus on it" translated from the Italian.

Is it real?? I don't know, what makes it real, how many people have to repeat this process, our secretary also presently knows a woman who was dxed with breast cancer, she did chemo iv and pills but was given a very poor prognosis, she also did baking soda, and she is finishing up and is clear. Perhaps the dude at www. phkillscancer.com can give you a heads up, I know you won't believe him but again, he looks to be in his 70's and he too is still around in spite of a very severe prognosis some years ago. Do I believe it? I don't know, would I try it either alone or in addition to standard treatment? Absolutely. Some believe that tumors start out as a fungal infection, and fungus likes an acidic environment, that is the theory, is it right? I don't know, do I consider it a possibility, yes.
