Disrespect

The 10 Worst Moments of Disrespect Towards President Obama

It starts from the Superiority Syndrome: People acting as if they’re more important than a U.S. President — when they clearly are not. To fingers in the face. To people questioning his already established and proven citizenship.

The incidents of disrespect towards President Obama continue.

When people criticize Administration policy, that’s just politics. But several incidents directed at this President appear to find new lows. Of course, people can disagree with the President. But, why can’t people respect the Office of the Presidency?

The very public nature of disrespect towards President Obama is noteworthy. Did Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ) have to conduct business with the President in front of reporters? Wasn’t there a better time and place? Would a visiting leader from a foreign country be greeted with a finger in his face by a Governor? If not, why would it happen to the leader of our own country? Could a hockey goalie have executed a quiet no-show for a White House invitation honoring his team? See Facebook for the answer on that one.

It wasn’t the end of the world when Speaker John Boehner refused the President’s date to speak to a joint session on jobs in September 2011. And yes, the White House picked that date to steal attention from a GOP debate. But like so many moments of disrespect towards the 44th President: No one can find another example in American history where a U.S. President requested a date to address Congress and was refused. Can anyone find another incident like the Brewer one? That the list below can even be compiled is telling.

Is it racist? Yes I believe that it is and has been since the beginning. The Superiority Syndrome.

you also have to consider the source of the Disrespect.. they're a bunch of Lying Losers.. Lying to the American People 24/7.. Hell, they don't even respect themselves so, of course, they're going to treat the President no better than they treat themselves. they can't even look at their ugly images in the mirror

The article definitely has some of the most egregious examples down, she.. good to get them all together so they don't go down the freakin' rabbit hole. # 8 being the most egregious and hurting Americans and America the most..

8. GOP House, prompted by Tea Party — refuses to raise debt ceiling (Aug 2011). Sounds like this was just hardball politics right? Let’s review the facts: The debt ceiling had been raised 69 times since 1962 without incident. Seven times during Bush II and 18 times during Reagan. Suddenly, with President Obama, a shiny new precedent is set with regard to raising the debt ceiling. Another never before seen incident is born.

I say fuck them all.. President Obama shows respect to everyone and to those who can't give him that courtesy in return to get their point across.. well, they're no better than a fuckin' teabagger.

The White House CorporateMediaPresstitute$ are some of the worst who Disrespect our President..

In Which the White House Press Corps Makes Me Guzzle Antifreeze

By Liberal Librarian

Before leaving on a well-deserved vacation, President Obama made a statement on the situation in northern Iraq and took a few questions.

Near the end, one of the esteemed members of the White House press corps asked—and I’m paraphrasing—”Do you regret not leaving troops in Iraq.”

I beat my head against my desk and blacked out for a few minutes upon hearing this query, but have now recovered enough to pen this essay.

This shouldn’t have to be repeated ad nauseam, but it seems that it must be so.

After former president George W. Bush’s misadventure into Mesopotamia—which exceeded its original 6 month timetable by about 6 and a half years—the Iraqis were quite eager to be rid of us. Mr. Bush, obviously, wanted to get something for his disaster. He wanted to leave a residual force in Iraq, to train Iraqi troops and “fight terrorism”—terrorism which hadn’t existed until American brigades invaded from Kuwait.

The rest of LL's essay..
http://theobamadiary.com/2014/08/09/in-which-the-white-house-press-corps-makes-me-guzzle-antifreeze/

A good retort would be.. "I regret that President Bush started that War on Iraq and bombed them in the first place. There were no terrorists in Iraq until bush and the neocons along with corporatemedia lied and were determined to do it no matter how gd stupid it was." Bam.

4. It all depends on how you view the office.
Sun Aug 10, 2014, 12:05 AM
Aug 2014

Personally, I view the office of the Presidency as just another job. It is a very important job, to be sure. But it is not like the position of king in olden times, where an insult to the king was some sort of horrible sin.

I don't like American presidents treated like kings. I don't like the regal pomp, and I don't like ships being named after them (Bush the elder, are you listening?).

US presidents are public servants. And insults of all sorts are just part of the job. Don't treat US presidents as kings, and don't be surprised when some people insult or disrespect them.

Now, having said all that, are some insults directed towards Obama racially based? Certainly. But I'd rather some of those insults sneak through then all insults be denounced and suppressed.

US presidents are not kings.

Yup insults are part of the job. Yet the insults to this President are staggering. Have you read what is out there!? I am not just talking about the link.

This President...yup just another 9-5 job! Are you serious?!

"President Barack Obama Is the Most Threatened President In History."

From Secret Service Says The Number Of Threats Against The President Is Overwhelming:
President Barack Obama is the target of more than 30 potential death threats a day and is being protected by an increasingly over-stretched Secret Service. He is the most threatened President in history.

Since the President took office in 2008, the rate of threats against the president has increased 400% cent. Some threats to the President have been publicized, including the well known alleged plot by white supremacists in Tennessee to rob a gun store, shoot 88 black people, decapitate another 14 and then assassinate the first black president in American history.

Most however, are kept under wraps because the Secret Service fears that revealing details of them would only increase the number of copycat attempts.

If your point is that it is wrong to disrespect President Obama, then I must disagree.

If your point is that people who disrespect President Obama are by and large racists, then I must disagree.

If your point is that President Obama has faced more than his fair share of disrespect, then I most certainly agree.

And please understand that the first two possibilities are, IMHO, very dangerous things to think. That is why I originally responded as I did.

WOW!!!! Absolutly amazing! You advocate this trash! Are you fricking serious!? Really Shemp!? Really? Then you are not a Democrat. You are good with Joe Wilson disrespecting this President. He yelled out YOU LIE! to our elected President and you are cool with that. And then Lindsey.OMG this is okay with you? Really!?

Shemp there is a huge fricking difference to DISAGREE with this President and DISRESPECT HIM!

Sen. Lindsey Graham Disrespects President Obama By Calling Him a Scumbag

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) committed the ultimate act of disrespect to President Obama and the presidency itself when he called White House officials scumbags who are lying about Benghazi.

29. You've got a point there, but...
Sun Aug 10, 2014, 06:54 AM

I had forgotten about the Joe Wilson incident. That was over the top...way over the top. Wilson should have been censured for his behavior.

But please hear me out. Back when Bush the younger was president, I openly called him a war criminal. I strongly believed it back then, and I strongly believe it now.

At a social gathering, I almost got into fistfight with a Republican acquaintance of mine over this. He was talking about how great Bush was. So I made the war criminal point. He angrily accused me of being disrespectful to President Bush. Well, that was my intention!

So I suppose that's why I'm a bit sensitive about attempts to demonize "disrespectful" speech. If I can be disrespectful of an elected official, why can't they?

Then again, perhaps "war criminal" was too harsh. Perhaps I should have just said "Bush made errors". Hmm...nope, I'm sticking with "war criminal".

As a side note, the only reason the fistfight didn't occur is that a tough old Korean war veteran was also present. He was a person we both respected. To my surprise, he agreed with me about Bush.

when we used to cheer about disrespect towards the President when we didn't actually engage in it.

Was it racist when we all laughed about a shoe thrown at the President?

When the President visited my state I was outside protesting his visit. I probably woulda cheered if my Governor had put a finger in his face. Instead of getting up on the state and saying what an honor it was to have the President come and lie to us in person.

Back in the day, some used to say that our dislike of the President was based on hatred. Hatred of our country which was only extended to President Bush.

I called bullsh*t on that.

Well I've gotta call the same bullsh*t on this oft repeated nonsnse that all hatred of Obama is based on hatred or fear of black people.

But I know I am wasting my time. Some people just have to impugn the motives of those who question dear leader. Apparently it is the only way dear leader can be defended is by attacking his critics.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Jong-il

FYI...Skinner doesn't like the reference to Obama either. He said so in ATA. And no, I can't find the thread.

Did you even bother to read this? Criticizing the President is far different than DISRESPECT!

When people criticize Administration policy, that’s just politics. But several incidents directed at this President appear to find new lows. Of course, people can disagree with the President. But, why can’t people respect the Office of the Presidency?

However you ignore what was written and take a new stab at calling the President "Dear Leader". That is disrespect not criticism. Yup, you found a new low and posted it here on Democratic Underground. You must be proud.

It's not (only) that Obama is black, it's that he dared to defeat one of the least appetizing Republican tickets in the last half century. And the Republicans are Very Sore losers. They are determined to punish Obama for winning and to punish the entire country for not electing the Republican ticket. They have adopted the policy of Rule or Ruin; if they don't get to run the country, then they'll run it into a ditch. They are willing to make the entire country suffer as its punishment for electing a Democratic president (twice).

I think it was Molly Ivins who said, "Republicans don't want to govern, they want to rule." You comment rule or ruin is spot on. They are the little brat who breaks a toy so no one else can have it. I think most of them are about as mentally developed as a two year old.

2. “You lie” (Sept. 2009). That any individual — no less a member of Congress watching a U.S. President during a joint session on live national television — is so lacking in self control that this moment was made possible is incredible — even in an age of incivility. Remember this happened only nine months into Obama’s presidency and is another “we can’t remember that ever happening ever before” moment. Close your eyes and pretend Rep. Maxine Waters was Wilson doing this to President Bush and image the reaction.
