http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/senate-races/220537-warren-raises-69-million-doubling-brownDemocrat Elizabeth Warren raised $6.9 million in the first three months of 2012, doubling Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) and cementing her status as the top Senate fundraiser of the cycle.
Warren's astonishing first-quarter haul put her in line with what many presidential candidates raised, and exceeded what she had raised in any previous quarter including the last three months of 2011, when she raked in $5.7 million. The campaign said more than 30,000 people from 350 Massachusetts towns had contributed since the start of the campaign.
Brown announced last week he had raised $3.4 million between January and March and had stockpiled $15 million for his general-election campaign against Warren.
"Scott Brown still has $4 million more in the bank than we do, and there's a lot of work ahead to do to close the gap. But this proves we're building something special," Warren's campaign manager, Mindy Myers, wrote Monday in an email to supporters.

Myers said that more than 30,000 people from 350 Massachusetts cities and towns contributed and that 83 percent of the donations since January have been for $50 or less. Those points were aimed at countering GOP charges that Warren, a former Harvard professor, is primarily an outsider backed by Washington forces.
In fact, moments after the Warren campaign announced its impressive haul, Brian Walsh, communications director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, tweeted, "Now if only the vast majority of donors to Professor Warren actually lived in MA and could vote in November. Perspective matters...."

(5,609 posts)EW needs to introduce herself to the MA voting public ASAP. Even long-time Democratic voters in the state don't know her name!
This is uncomfortably similar to the previous election in which the Democratic candidate assumed she had the election locked by virtue of her party afiliation. Sadly the outcome of that presumption was Senator Teabagger Brown.

(34,589 posts)She'll go for Brown's jugular - and Brown will fight back nastily. If this goes on for more than a couple of months, it will get old with voters and she'll probably look the worse for it since she's the attacker.
I think Warren will wait until closer to the election, then all Hell will break loose - and she'll win handily. For starters, Warren will eviscerate Brown in the debates.
She ain't Martha Coakley, I'm sure of that.

(63,926 posts)She can't be in two places at the same time and she probably needs lots of surrogates out there. But you can't say she isn't a tireless campaigner. But she is new so folks do have to get to know her and she has to cover a lot of territory at a lot of venues. I feel certain that she will...

(5,477 posts)Hedge funders have unlimited money and Warren is their biggest threat. Mark my words, Brown (and his super PACs) will outspend Warren 10-1.

(11,532 posts)why don't we just see who can raise the most money in a 6 month period. The winner of that contest wins.
Oh, wait... I think we might already be heading in that direction.

(15,071 posts)race. The GOP will have unlimited money since the Citizens United ruling.
The only way we can compete is through grass roots GOTV.

(61 posts)Yes, we want her to win, but this escalation of campaign costs isn't good for anybody.
They could decide to use the money for something constructive, each agreeing to some, small, equal amount. The rest could be used for jobs, food, etc.
But they won't. And we won't do anything about it. And it'll become a contest between our rich donors vs their rich donors.

(5,044 posts)Brown has more money, he is still going to get a ton more. We have got to try and pick up the pace. I think its time I send a few more dollars.
Here's hoping that we all take the time to send 5$ or 10$ or whatever you can afford.

(3,596 posts)I would love to see the smirk be wiped off Scott Brown's face as well as the terror of Mitch "I only want to defeat this President" McConnell's and the other GOP old white guys' faces when she gives them a daily dressing down on the Senate floor. She is a powerhouse - smart, experienced, with the people. Go Elizabeth!!!
