Dog In Hot Car: Distressed Animal Helped By Witness, Police, And Wrecker Driver In Texas

A witness, deputy, and wrecker driver helped get a dog out of a hot car that was left inside by his owner on August 8. In another careless incident by an animal owner, a dog in Texas was spotted inside a car parked at a store parking lot in Harris County looking distressed.

Click2 Houston News reports that a witness noticed the dog inside a vehicle that was turned off and the windows rolled up. This was at about 5:10 pm at the HEB parking lot on Aldine Westfield near Aldine Mail Route. The witness went inside the store and told the HEB manager, who paged the dog’s owner several times over the intercom system. The owner never responded, so more action was taken.

According to investigators with Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, the dog could be seen on the floorboard appearing “distressed.” By 5:30 pm the store manager and the witness called police. When a deputy arrived at the scene, a wrecker was called to break into the car and save the dog. By 5:45 pm the wrecker had the door open, freeing the dog from the hot car. Fortunately, the animal was alive, but was transferred to animal control.

Investigators identify the dog’s owner as Kyle Rudi Dettmers. The deputy who was at the scene says the owner didn’t come back to the car until 6 pm. Dettmers told the deputy that he “forgot” to roll down the windows.

take Kyle, place in car with windows rolled up in bright sunshine in the HEB parking lot. chain doors shut. Allow Kyle to sit in car until he is laying on the floor panting like a dog and close to heat exhaustion.

He will never forget to "roll the windows down" again.

to keep the windows rolled down in the summer unless it rained. Granted it was one of those cars where you had to have your seat belt on to start the car, but it never worked after the first month so I would have to reach in and start the car before I got in it. Used topark it in NYC all the time, and it was very old, never got stolen, although it's hub caps disappeared pretty quick. Also the dash board lights didn't work and were impossible to replace, so I taped a flashlight to the arm rest to shine on the dash board. It had a smashed in side and... lots of things wrong with it, but it was great on gas and never stopped running. When I had an engine oil lead. I, by myself, stepped into the the space under the hood and replaced the gasket - still can't believe I did that.

They had personalities! Not any more...pretty much all the same..."design" has been "perfected". Blah.
One car I owned had broken windshield washers. I carried the kind of water bottle you might see a trainer use to squirt water into the boxer's mouth between rounds....I reached out, squirted the windows and ran the wipers.
All but the largest dog would have been able to squeeze through the hole in the floorboards to get free.

Just leave him/her at home with some shade and water, he/she will be so glad to see you when you get home, and will be safe.

We just released a new product that protects pets from heat related death in cars by alerting owners via text/email when it’s too hot so they can take action before the animal dies or gets harmed. It’s very affordable and easy to use and money is donated to an animal charity for each purchase. Check it out at http://igg.me/at/condorpet/x/7582288
