grandmother sparks outrage by photographing grandchild in roasting pan

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2723447/Woman-sparks-outrage-posting-funny-photos-baby-granddaughter-roasting-pan-duct-tape-face.html

Ohio woman thought she was being funny when she photographed her baby granddaughter with duct tape on her face and lying in a roasting pan - but Facebook users who saw the images disagreed.

The grandmother, Jackie Sheaks, of Columbus, Ohio, set off a firestorm online that drew the attention of the local sheriff’s office when she shared the prank photos of her granddaughter.

In one of the images, the child's pacifier had been secured to her cheeks with two pieces of duct tape. In another, the infant is resting inside a large turkey roasting pan next to some potatoes.

It's just twisted humor. Remember the urban legend about the babysitter who has the acid flashback and cooks the baby in the oven and the parents find it when they get home from the party? That's what the baby in the roasting pan makes me think of. I guess you just have to have that sort of appreciation for dark humor.

But surely no one thought that granny was really thinking about cooking the baby, right? Did people really get that impression, because I don't see how they could view it as anything but a joke, even if they didn't really appreciate it themselves.

in an Addams Family kind of way. It would probably be funnier if the kid was wearing a lobster or baked potato costume, and it was closer to halloween, too.

But the duct tape? I agree with you--that's just stupidity, if not abuse. If the kid keeps losing the pacifier, tie it to the jumper the kid is wearing.

It's the two things together that are jarring. The tape is just weird.

Go talk to some people who have really been abused by their families and then get back to me about how serious this is. You know, victims of incest, beatings, and mental abuse. This is nothing but a fucking joke and people are getting outraged about it. There's a lot to be outraged about nowadays, but this dark little joke doesn't even register in my mind of things to be concerned about. In fact, I'll have forgotten about it by this afternoon.

and possible injury... that is abuse.

Not as painful as the abuse you are talking about, but still deliberately inflicted abuse and very, very wrong.

I agree with the rest -- just dark humor.

duct tape on there in some way that didn't hurt the baby when it came off. She could have rubbed baby oil on the skin before applying the tape so it wouldn't hurt coming off.

There are lots of things she could've done to protect the skin before applying the tape. It's easy to make something look right for a photo.

but it does look stuck on the other side.

Assuming she did protect the baby's face, I think it's a pretty funny comment about desperation over babies losing their pacifiers every other second. Same as babies smelling good enough to eat.

the nose is dangerous, and abusive imho.

You don't duct tape pacifiers to babies mouths EVER.

It could cause choking and breathing difficulty.

Why would anyone do this? To make it so the baby can't make a sound???

Funny idea, lame execution.
(and for the record, no... one should NOT duct tape a pacifier to a baby's mouth. that's cause for concern. the lame roasting pan pictures are not.)

I bet nobody was outraged by any of these photos:

I am from New England and the kids or dogs in lobster costumes is a popular meme here, so I will admit those make me laugh. I've never seen the kids in the stew pot theme before this, though.
