Broadway to dim lights for Robin Williams

Robin Williams to be honored when Broadway theaters dim their lights Wednesday night

[IMG][/IMG]

The lights along the Great White Way will go dark Wednesday night in honor of Robin Williams.

Broadway theaters across Midtown will dim the lights on their marquees for one minute at 7:45 p.m. to pay homage to the Oscar-winning actor two days after his shocking death.

Though best known as a comedian and movie star, Williams debuted on Broadway three years ago as the leading man in the drama "Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo."

He also appeared in the off-Broadway production of "Waiting for Godot," starring with Steve Martin in Mike Nichols' 1988 version of the Samuel Beckett classic.

He was excellent in it, both as an alive man and as a dead man.

For so many decades he sheltered us and used his humor to provide relief from the things that get us down. It was like he protected us from falling into a deep funk in our personal lives. Now that he's gone, the world feels more serious and less happier.
