Two Americas: Ferguson, Missouri Versus the Bundy Ranch, Nevada
Bob Cesca
August 14, 2014
As we noted yesterday, we cant help but to contrast law enforcements reaction to protesters in Ferguson, Missouri versus law enforcements reaction during the Bundy Ranch fiasco.
1) The Bundy Ranch: On one hand, a large group of armed white men marched in a line of battle while at least one civilian rifleman in a snipers perch trained his weapon at Bureau of Land Management officials. In reaction, the government didnt fire a single round or canister of tear gas, and eventually retreated, conceding the disputed ground to the Bundy militias. Its important to note that the protesters turned out in support of a man who refused to pay his taxes and grazed his cattle without paying the accompanying fees. This man, Cliven Bundy, and his supporters threatened secession and armed revolt against the United States government.
2) Ferguson, Missouri: On the other hand, unarmed African American protesters in Ferguson, enraged and grieving from the death of an (again) unarmed black man named Michael Brown who was shot in the back by a police officer, have been confronted for several days now by police in full military regalia. This time, the rifleman in the snipers perch is a police officer his scope trained on the protesters.
In Ferguson, law enforcement is vastly overreacting in the face of peaceful protesters, while at the Bundy Ranch, law enforcement vastly underreacted in the face of armed secessionists and scofflaws.
Whats wrong with this picture? Better yet, whats wrong with the following pictures?

(17,199 posts)For those who would call that statement hyperbolic: When was the last time that an unarmed White person was gunned down by the police? When was the last time a White teen was left to rot like strange fruit, face down in the middle of the street for four hours, his blood pooled beneath him?

How much more blatant could the bias be? Same with Bush protesters being put in F̶r̶e̶e̶ ̶S̶p̶e̶e̶c̶h̶ ̶Z̶o̶n̶e̶s̶ cages far, far away, while armed TeaPartiers get up close and personal to President Obama. Yet the RW claim their rights are trampled upon.
War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength.

(9,771 posts)RW groups have sought to basically bring racism out of the closet--as if it's nothing to be ashamed of--and to turn back many of the advances. Seems now it's the "racist rights movement" that is gaining momentum.

(9,771 posts)using those lies as rallying cries are about to take control of both houses of congress.
I really thought we were on a trajectory away from all that BS, but the RW saw that happening and enacted a pretty successful battle plan against such progress. The arc of the Moral Universe was already disappointingly long but it was bending toward justice, however the RW have grabbed onto the forward end of it and are twisting it back upon itself. We really need to wrest it from their control, but that does not seem an strong or imminent prospect.
