First rule of convenience store clerking, never ever get physical even if somebody is shoplifting (which is what he apparently did).

But it's bullshit to then claim that the clerk started the problem. The thief started the problem by stealing. He wasn't stealing food or water or vital supplies. He was stealing cigars.
